Loading the Driver Package
This file contains instructions for loading a third-party driver package
on your VINES 7.0 server. See also your Server Installation Guide.
Instructions for Loading the Driver Package
1. Place a DOS-formatted, 1.44 MB diskette in the diskette drive of a
client workstation where you downloaded and decompressed the zip file
that contained this instruction file, the Readme file, the driver
package, and DSKIMAGE.EXE.
2. Use DSKIMAGE.EXE to make a diskette image of the driver package as
follows:
DSKIMAGE driver_file A:
driver_file is the driver package. The diskette is in drive A of the
workstation.
3. Take the diskette with the driver image to the server.
Note
If this is an initial installation of or update to VINES 7.0, go to
step 5 when the system asks if you want to build the default kernel.
4. From the server Operator Menu, select 10. System Maintenance, select
6. Configure/Diagnose server, and then select 5. Configure Kernel.
5. Specify C for a custom configuration. This brings you to the Kernel
Configuration menu.
6. Insert the diskette into the server diskette drive.
7. Select 5. Load driver package to load your driver, and press Enter.
8. Remove the diskette after the driver package is loaded.
9. Enter 1. List available drivers and see if there is an asterisk (*)
in front of your driver. If there is an asterisk (*) in front of your
driver, press ESC and go to step 13.
10. If there is not an asterisk (*), press ESC, then select 3. Configure
kernel.
11. Select 1. Add driver and enter the number of your driver from the
display.
12. Press ESC and select 4. Return to previous menu.
13. Select 4. Build kernel.
14. Select 2. Build current configuration.
Note
If this is an initial installation of or update to VINES 7.0,
select 3. Return to previous menu, then select 7. Exit, and continue
with the installation. See your Server Installation Guide.
15. Do not save the current kernel to unix.orig when prompted. The
unix.orig that is on the system is the kernel that came with VINES. It
allows you to boot the original operating system in case of problems.
16. Select 3. Return, and 7. Exit to exit to the Operator Menu when the
operating system completes rebuilding and then select 4. Shut Down
Server Software, and select 2. Shut down services and do an AUTOMATIC
REBOOT to reboot your server.
