Upgrading the Windows 2003
driver for the
PERC 2 PCI controller card and PERC 2/Si, PERC 3/Si, PERC 3/Di Integrated
Controllers in a Windows NT Operating System
This document provides instructions to upgrade the Windows 2003 driver for
the V2.7 DELL PERC 2 and integrated controllers(PERC 2/Si, PERC 3/Si, and
PERC 3/Di) .
1.0 Installing the Driver When Upgrading to Windows 2003
To install the driver for the controller during an upgrade
to Windows 2003, follow these steps.
1. Before you perform the upgrade, uninstall the
Dell OpemnManage Array Manager controller management software
(FAST/CLI if using vendor supplied utility).
See the installation guide associated with your
controller maanagement software for instructions on how to
uninstall the Controller Management Software.
2. Insert the diskette that contains the Windows 2003
driver for your controller into the "A" drive and do
not remove it from the drive. The diskette contains
the following:
- A setup script, "ntupgrade.bat", that prepares
your system for the upgrade to Windows 2003.
- The Windows 2003 driver for your controller.
3. From the command prompt, change your working directory
to the "A" drive, and execute the following command:
A:\ntupgrade.bat
The "ntupgrade.bat" script prepares your system for the
upgrade to the new Windows 2003 driver for your
controller.
CAUTION: During the upgrade to Windows 2003, the
Windows NT device driver for your controller that is
currently installed on your system is replaced with
the Windows 2003 driver.
If, for whatever reason, you execute the script
"ntupgrade.bat" but do not complete the upgrade to
Windows 2003, you must re-install the Windows NT
driver for your controller since--among other
things-- "ntupgrade.bat" removes the Windows NT driver
for your controller from your system.
Thus, if you do not reinstall the Windows NT driver
for your controller, you will not be able to manage
the controller.
To reinstall the Windows NT driver for your
controller, go to "Control Panel-> SCSI Adapters".
Select the "driver" tab, then select the entry for
your controller and press "Add". Select "Have Disk",
then when prompted, insert the diskette that contains
the PERC Windows NT driver for your controller.
After you install the original NT driver for your
controller, reboot the system and you will be able to
manage your controller.
4. Insert the Windows 2003 CD-ROM into your CD drive.
5. When the upgrade dialog box appears, select the option
to "Upgrade to Windows 2003".
Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the upgrade
to Windows 2003.
A popup window now appears, asking if you want to
continue installing an unsigned driver. Select "Yes".
The upgrade then continues to completion.
6. After you perform the upgrade, install the previously uninstalled
Controller Management Software. See the installation guide
associated with your controller for instructions on how to install
the Controller Management Software.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
