1.0  Introduction

This is the driver for following PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controllers:
 	PERC 4/DC.



2.0 Compatibility / Minimum Requirements

This Device Driver is compatible with the following firmware versions:

	PERC 4/DC Adapter Firmware 		3.41



3.0 Install Instructions

This package is a self-extracting package for the Windows Server 2003 
device drivers for the PERC 4/DC. 

When the package is executed it extracts files to C:\Dell\Driver\Rxxxx
if the package is Rxxxx.exe

To create a Driver Installation Diskette copy the contents of this folder
to a blank formatted floppy disk. 


3.1 Installing the PERC Driver during Windows Server 2003 Installation

    1. Boot the system using the Windows Server 2003 CD. When the 
       message "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or 
       RAID driver." appears, press F6.

    2. When prompted to install additional adapters in the system. 
       Choose 'S'.

    3. When prompted for the driver diskette. Insert the PERC Windows 
       Server 2003 driver diskette in the floppy drive and press Enter.

    4. Select to the driver for your installed controller and press 
       Enter to load the driver.

    5. If the Windows install prints a message saying that the driver 
       that you provided is older/newer then the Windows driver, press 
       'S' to use the driver on the floppy.

    6. Press Enter to continue the installation process.



3.2 Adding the PERC/CERC Driver to an Existing Windows Server 2003 
    Installation

Use this process to install the driver after adding a new PERC 4/DC 
adapter to a system that has an existing Windows Server 2003 
instillation

   1. Boot the system to Windows 2003. The Found New Hardware Wizard 
      is displayed if the hardware has just been installed.
   2. Select to manually install the driver.
   3. Select to install driver from a list or specific location and click 
      Next to continue.
   4. Choose Have Disk to install the driver from a specified location.
   5. Navigate to the location for the driver files to complete the 
      installation.

      Floppy disk drive if using the Driver Installation Diskette that
      you created or the location on the hard drive to which you extracted
      the driver files (C:\dell\drivers\Rxxxx is the default).

   6. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.  
 
The Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears one time for each PERC 4/DC 
controller that is newly installed. Repeat the process for each adapter.



3.3 Updating the PERC 4/DC Driver 

If your server is already running Windows Server 2003, use the following 
steps to update the PERC 4/DC Windows Server 2003 driver. 


   1. Insert the PERC/CERC Windows Server 2003 driver diskette in the 
      floppy drive.
   2. From Device Manager select the PERC 4/DC and launch the driver
      update wizard.
   3. Select Install driver from a list or specific location and click 
      Next to continue.
   4. Choose Have Disk to install the driver from a specified location.
   5. Navigate to the location for the driver files to complete the 
      installation.

      Floppy disk drive if using the Driver Installation Diskette that
      you created or the location on the hard drive to which you extracted
      the driver files (C:\dell\drivers\Rxxxx is the default).

   6. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
