RELEASE NOTES A. General information This release provides Windows NT 4.0 and NT 3.51 drivers for AVM Apex. These drivers are in process of certification by Microsoft for the "Designed for Windows NT". This is a new release that are compatible with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 PnPISA. B. CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE 3.1 Improved WinNT 4.0 PnPISA compatible. 3.2 HELP screens provided for settings page in Multimedia Panel (APEX.HLP). 3.3 Fixed problem with playing MIDI under 3.51 without setting MIDI MAPPER. 3.4 Mute DAC when there is no DMA activity. 3.5 Midimap.cfg initializes the MIDIMAPPER for Windows NT 3.51. Limitations of this release Win NT 4.0 is not a Plug and Play operating system in the extent featured in Windows 95. PnPISA must be installed prior to installation of this version of Apex NT driver. Several Win NT 4.0 system functionality must be installed by the user. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS System preparation: 4.0 Removing Previous driver revisions The first essential step is to remove previous Apex driver revisions using Windows NT supplied tools. If you have WinNT PnPISA installed, please remove the drivers from Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Devices first, reboot NT, then run 'regedit32' (Located in C:\WINNT\System32), Under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Enum ISAPNP and carefully delete all devices listed as 'ADS7180 ....', now reboot WinNT and follow installation instruction below. *Make a backup directory on your hard disk, and copy all the files from the driver diskette and unzip the files *Verify that you have AVM Apex soundcard in your system 4.0.1 Open the Control Panel/Multimedia folder. Click "Devices" to view the list of installed devices Open "Audio Devices" , click once on the Apex Audio driver Click "Remove" A warning dialog box will ask you to confirm, Click Yes. A System Setting Change dialog box will confirm the driver removed, and ask for a restart. Click "restart now" 4.1 Installing NT drivers 4.1.1 Install 'PNPISA.SYS': Insert WinNT CD, duble-click CD drive containing WinNT CD, Click on 'Browse this CD', Open 'Drvlib' -> 'Pnpisa' -> 'X86', highlight 'Pnpisa.inf' and right click mouse and select 'install'. Now re-boot windows. 4.1.2 Upon successful installation of 'Pnpisa.sys', a new hardware found message 'New Hardware found .....' will appear, System will proceed with three options, select 'Manufacture provided driver..', choose the appropriate directory containing the driver. Next, system will display device setting box, note if there are any conflicts: first set of hardware setting is for digital audio record and playback, second window is MPU-401 port, record this port information and make sure to change it's IRQ if it is set to 9; change IRQ setting to 11. Re-boot system. 4.1.2 After re-booting system, there should be an speaker icon on the task bar, this indicates Apex hardware is functioning, double-click on the speaker icon and under 'Master Volume' click on 'Advanced' button, check 'External control 1' check box. Bring up Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Devices -> 'add' -> 'Low level Wave, MIDI and AUX support' re-boot system as instructed. 4.1.3 After re-booting system, Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Devices -> 'add' -> 'MIDI Mapper', re-boot system if system prompt for re-boot. Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Devices -> 'add' -> 'MPU-401 Compatible Driver', use the setting recorded for Apex Wavetable and set IO port and IRQ accordingly. Re-boot system as indicated. 4.2 Open Control Panel -> Multimedia -> MIDI, there should be three items listed, select 'generic MPU...' 'Generic MPU-401 ..' refers to Apex Wavetable, high-light 'Generic MPU-401..' this will be the default device for MIDI playback. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
