1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  IBM PC AT Compatible
  Pentium class CPU (Intel P5, Cyrix or AMD), 100MHz or higher
  Microsoft Windows95
  Minimum of 200KB free hard disk space
  Minimum of 8MB RAM (16MB recommended)

A. Limitations of this release

  1. There are no know bugs.

3. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for Win 95 OSR1

System preparation:

  Before installing these drivers, it is advised to remove all previously
  installed audio drivers. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Open <My Computer> on the Win95 Desktop
  2. Open <Control Panel>
  3. Open <Add/Remove Programs>
  4. Select the un-installer for the currently installed sound driver
  5. Click on the button <add/Remove> and confirm that you want to remove
     the driver
  6. Re-boot the system

  Note: If you have previously installed Windows 95 driver for Apex, make sure to
	remove file 'AVM Technology, Inc.ENGLISH.INF' located at:

	\Windows\inf\Other

	Before you reboot the system.
	
	In some installation, it may be required to remove the driver manually by.

	Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Sound Video and Game controller.

	highlight Apex driver and remove one at a time until all Apex drivers are removed
	(Apex Sound Controller, Apex Joystick, Apex MPU-401,Apex Wavetable).
	Now remove 'AVM Technology, Inc.ENGLISH.inf' file. and reboot. 

Installation of the version 4.05.00.0158 driver for Win95 OSR1:

  1. Make a backup directory on your hard disk, and copy all the files
     from the driver diskette and unzip the files
  2. Verify that you have an AVM Apex soundcard in your system
  3. Turn on the PC and wait until Win95 has started (Win95 will detect
     the soundcard next)
  4. In the panel <New Hardware Found>, select
     <Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer>, and click on <OK>
  5. In the <Install from Disk> panel, click on <Browse>, and locate the
     directory where the files were unzipped.
  6. Make sure that the INF file has been selected in the <Open>
     panel, and click on <OK>
  7. Click on <OK> in the <Install From Disk> panel
  8. Win95 will next copy the files and ask you to restart the computer;
     click on <Yes>, and wait until Win95 has been re-started
  9. Win95 will continue to load the drivers for MPU-401 and the
     Joystick/GamePort

You have now successfully completed the installation.

4. CONFIGURATION INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 Games and Win 95 DOS boxes..

  >  The Configuration Manager will normally disable all PnP devices when
  > "Shutdown to DOS" is selected. In a subsequent release, we will
  > provide a  method to retain Apex on the bus, so that
  > DOS games can be played. Release 4.03.0110 does not contain this capability
  > at this time.

5. Bug Fixes.

  1.  Fixed Balance reset for hardware volume control; if volume set to zero, balance 
      is centered (for boards with hardware volume control).
  2.  Fixed Apex Wavetable device nameing, correct problem with Application software that
      access device driver directly (CakeWalk Pro Audio 6.0 etc.). 
  3.  Change code that checks device ID for REMOVE tool.
  4.  Fixed problem related to Mic gain (to Line Out).
  5.  Removed code to mute DAC.  Caused problem in DirectSound.

6. TROUBLESHOOTING

A. No sound.

  Make sure that the following items are correctly set:

    1. There are no resource conflicts for the Codec and the MPU-401
       logical devices in the <Device Manager>. See your Microsoft Win95 user's
       guide how to solve such conflicts.
    2. The Master volume control in the <Master Volume> panel
       are not muted.
    3. The Line_out/Speaker connector on your soundcard is properly
       connected to the speakers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
