                      Ultra TX Series NetWare Driver
                           Version 1.03.0.11
                      For Novell NetWare 5.1 and 6

[INTRODUCTION]

1.1 Foreward

This procedure applies to all Ultra133 TX2 and Ultra100 TX2 adapters
running under Novell NetWare 5.1/6 operating systems. This driver
supports hard disk drives greater than 137GB.
 

1.2 Module Check

The operating system must be running a IDEHD.CDM module dated 08/16/2002 
or later in order to support hard disk drives greater than 137GB.

    1. On your NetWare computer, run DOS.
 
    2. Go to directory C:\NWSERVER\DRIVERS.

    3. Check the date of the IDEHD.CDM file.

       If the date is 08/16/2002 or later, continue with the driver
       installation.

       If the date is earlier than 08/16/2002, download and install the 
       latest Service Pack from http://support.novell.com. Then continue
       with the driver installation.


[INSTALLATION]

2.1 Prepare a Driver Diskette

You will use a diskette to load the new Ultra TX driver onto your PC.

    1. Obtain a new, formatted diskette and label it "Ultra Driver Disk."
       Insert it into your PC's floppy drive.

    2. Extract the contents of the driver file you downloaded from the
       Promise website onto your diskette.


2.2 To install the Ultra driver into a NEW system:

    1. Start the Netware 5.1/6 installation as you normally would.

    2. When you reach the point in the installation where you install storage 
       adapters, choose "Modify" in the "Options" window and press ENTER.

    3. Highlight the "Storage Adapters" field and press ENTER.

    4. Press the INSERT key on your keyboard to "Add a device".

    5. Insert the Ultra Driver Disk into your A: floppy drive.

    6. Press the insert key again to "Add an unlisted driver".

    7. Press F3 and type "A:\" in the "Specify a directory path:" window.
       Press ENTER.

    8. The ULTRA.HAM driver should be listed in the "Select a driver to
       install:" window. Press ENTER to select this driver.

    9. If you need to install any additional drivers for other storage
       adapters, choose "Yes" in the "Do you want to select an additional 
       storage driver?" window. If not, choose "No".

   10. Choose "Return to driver summary" in the "Additional Driver Options"
       window and press enter.

   11. Choose "CONTINUE" in the options window and press ENTER.

   12. Continue the installation as you would normally.



2.3 To install the Ultra driver into an EXISTING system:

    1. From the System Console type "load NWCONFIG".

    2. Choose "Driver Options".

    3. Choose "Configure disk and storage device drivers".

    4. Choose "Select a driver".

    5. Press the INSERT key on your keyboard.

    6. Insert the Ultra Driver Disk into your A: floppy drive.

    7. Press F3 and type "A:\" in the "Specify a directory path:" window.
       Press ENTER.

    8. The ULTRA.HAM driver should be listed in the "Select a driver to
       install:" window. Press ENTER to select this driver.

    9. Choose "Yes" when asked if you want to copy this driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
