Installation Instructions:

Your computer is shipped with the ATI FIRE GL E1 graphics accelerator
system and its video drivers were factory-installed by Dell and are fully
functional when you receive the system. Refer to the installation
instructions in your computer’s User’s Guide, if you purchased a customer
kit to install the FIRE GL E1 Graphics Accelerator to replace your existing
graphics solution.
For your convenience the following procedures describe how to install
the graphics driver software.
You need the information in this section on re-installation of the
basic driver software for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only if you are
re-installing the operating system or if you want to install a driver update.
NOTES:
- The drivers are designed exclusively to support FIRE GL E1 Graphics
Accelerators with the Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro operating systems.
The drivers DO NOT SUPPORT any other type or brand of graphics card or
operating system.
- This device driver requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro installed.
- Before installing the ATI FIRE GL E1 video driver, please close all
open application programs and disable any anti-virus software that is
running on your computer until the driver installation is complete!
Extract Video Driver from the Dell ResourceCD
---------------------------------------------
1. Insert the Dell ResourceCD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
2. If the Dell ResourceCD window does not open automatically, double-click on
'My Computer' on your desktop and then double-click on the CD/DVD-ROM
drive containing the Dell ResourceCD.
3. Follow the instructions provided by the Dell ResourceCD to locate the
video driver package for your card.
4. Once you have located the package, select it to unzip the driver on to the
hard drive. These files are extracted by default to the directory
C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxx (where xxxxx is the name of the driver being
unzipped).
5. At the 'Setup Complete screen , select 'Yes' and click 'Finish' to restart
your sytem
Install Updated Video Driver in Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro
----------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: The following instructions refer to installation of the driver from
your Dell Resource CD. If you downloaded the driver from the Dell
Support web site, then in instruction 3 below type the correct path on
your hard drive where the new driver has been downloaded.
1. This driver must be installed by a user with Windows Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Microsoft
Windows User's Manual for more information on Administrator
privileges.
2. Start Microsoft Windows 2000, or Windows XP Pro, respectively.
3. Double-click on the 'Install.exe' file located with the driver package. If
you extracted the drivers from the Dell Resource CD using the default
directory they will be located in C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxxx (where xxxxx is
the name of the driver being unzipped).
4. At the 'Install Shield' screen, click 'Next' to begin the driver install
procedure. Follow the 'Install Shield' instructions to install your
drivers.
5. Click the 'Finish' button to complete the driver installation.
6. When prompted to restart the system, click the 'Yes' button.
Changing Display Driver Settings
--------------------------------
1. From the Windows taskbar, click 'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel'.
2. Double-click the 'Display' icon to access the 'Display Properties'
dialog.
3. Click the 'Settings' tab, then select the desired resolution and color
palette. Refer to the 'FIRE GL E1 'User's Guide' for supported resolutions
and color depth information.
4. Click 'OK' and click 'Yes' to keep your settings.

Uninstallation Instructions:
----------------------------
This section describes how to properly remove your ATI FIRE GL E1
software from your system should you need to do so.
NOTE: Before removing the ATI FIRE GL E1 video driver, please close
all open application programs and disable any anti-virus software
that is running on your computer until the driver uninstallation
is complete!
1. Start Windows
2. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel
3. Double-click the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon.
4. Select 'ATI FGL Display Driver' from the list of software programs.
5. Click 'Add/Remove' or 'Change/Remove' button. The 'ATI uninstall' dialog
appears.
6. Click 'Yes' to remove the ATI Display Driver.
7. Click 'Yes' to resart your computer.

ATI CONFIGURATION FEATURES AND INFORMATION
-----------------------------------------------------------
ATI dialogs in the 'Display Properties' menu allow setting
and adjusting the video settings to suit your requirements best:
Monitor: choose your monitors
DualScreen: enable two-monitor video modes and set up a two-monitor display
Information: display card-specific hardware and driver information
Configuration: customize application profiles
You can display the 'Display Properties' menu by right-clicking the Windows
Desktop background and then selecting the 'Properties' option from the pop-up
menu.
Monitor Dialog
--------------
1. Select the 'ATI Monitor' tab from the 'Display Properties' menu.
You can find more information on setting up the monitor in the
context sensitive online help.
Note: In Windows 2000 / Windows XP Pro the (ATI) Monitor dialog is not
active
- if you have only one monitor connected to the card
- if you have disabled the secondary monitor in the DualScreen dialog
Use the (Windows) Monitor dialog via Display Properties > Settings >
Advanced > (Windows) Monitor to select your specific monitor.
2. Click the tab for the monitor you want to set up. Monitor 1 is the monitor
connected to the VGA connector, Monitor 2 is the monitor connected to the
DVI connector.
3. Set the desired operation mode for the selected monitor:
Select from list
----------------
Use resolution/refresh rate settings optimized for your specific
monitor.
Select the appropriate Dell monitor type, or DDC Monitor.
If you do not have a Dell or DDC Monitor or are not sure, choose the
Generic Monitor selection.
A list on the right menu panel displays resolutions and - for each
resolution - the maximum refresh rate, as supported by the selected
monitor. If the selected monitor does not support the current video mode
(specified in the 'Settings' dialog), the resolution/
refresh rate setting will be automatically reduced.
DDC Monitor
-----------
Select this option and click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button if you want
the driver to automatically decode the monitor's DDC (Display Data
Channel) information on each reboot/NT 4.0 start.
To detect a new DDC monitor immediately, click the 'Detect now'
button. An error message will be displayed if the connected monitor
does not support DDC.
Refresh Frequency
-----------------
for Monitor 2 - the monitor connected to the DVI connector - only.
Select the desired refresh rate. All refresh rates supported by the
monitor for the currently selected resolution are displayed.
NOTE: Use the Settings or (Windows) Monitor dialogs of the Display
Properties to set the refresh rate for Monitor 1 - the monitor
connected to the VGA connector
4. Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your monitor settings.
DualScreen Dialog
------------------
NOTE: For settings in the DualScreen dialog you need the following:
- Two monitors connected to the card
- Both monitors switched on when you start your computer
1. Select the DualScreen tab from the Display Properties menu.
2. Select your Primary Monitor. The primary monitor is the left monitor
or upper monitor, respectively, of a multiple monitor desktop.
Monitor icon 1 is for the monitor connected to the VGA connector,
monitor icon 2 is for the monitor connected to the DVI connector.
3. Select your Desktop Setup
Select 'Disable Secondary Monitor' if you want to work in single-monitor
mode with the primary monitor.
Select 'Clone Mode' if you want the display of the primary monitor
duplicated on the second monitor.
Select 'Extended Desktop Horizontal' to enlarge your desktop to the
double horizontal resolution. You will see the left section of your
display on the primary monitor and the right section on the second
monitor.
Select 'Extended Desktop Vertical' to enlarge your desktop to the
double vertical resolution. You will see the upper section of your
display on the primary monitor and the lower section on the second
monitor.
NOTE: The 'Extended Desktop' settings will deselect the 'hiding modes
that the computer cannot display' option in the 'Monitor' panel.
Do not reset this option manually if you have an 'Extended Desktop'
enabled.
4. Select the 'Window Placement' settings:
Fullscreen: Select if you want a full screen window displayed 'On all'
monitors, or only on the 'Current' monitor
Windows: Select how you want to display sizeable windows that normally
appear in the middle of the screen: 'Unchanged', or 'Moved' fully to
that monitor where the top left corner of the window is.
Reports: Select a monitor where you want to display Windows messages
that normally display in the middle of the screen. This keeps the screen
area of the other monitor free for your work. You may alternatively opt
for displaying the reports 'Unchanged'.
5. Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your 'DualScreen' settings.
NOTES: (1) Both monitors will operate with the same resolution. Check the
documentation of your monitors and make sure that each monitor supports
your resolution and refresh rate setting.
(2) The Settings dialog will display the corresponding 'DualScreen'
resolution. For example, 1024x768 is a single-screen resolution, using
only one monitor. 2048x768 indicates the same resolution for 'Large
Desktop Horizontal' using both monitors, and 1024x1536 indicates the same
resolution for 'Large Desktop Vertical' using both monitors.
(3) Refer to your Windows online help and documentation for further
information on using the 'Settings' dialog.
(4) Use the (ATI) Monitor dialog (in Windows 2000 / Windows XP Pro:
Settings\ Advanced\ (ATI) Monitor to select and set your specific monitors.
Information Dialog
------------------
Check the 'Information' dialog in Display Properties window
You see information for detailed hardware and driver information on your
FIRE GL E1 card. This data may be helpful when contacting Dell Technical
Support.
Configuration Dialog (for experienced users only!)
--------------------------------------------------------
If you experience problems with your application, or if you want to try
to optimize the performance of your system on specific applications, you
may modify the configuration settings.
Select the 'Configuration' tab via Display Properties/Settings/Advanced.
You can find more information on the settings in the
'Configuration' dialog in the context sensitive online help.
Selecting an Application:
The 'Configuration' features a selection of many common CAD and DCC
applications. The settings for these applications have already been
optimized and set up for the FIRE GL E1 driver. You can select the
appropriate application by clicking on the name in the 'Configuration
Profiles' and then click 'OK' or 'Apply' to enable the selection.
Adding an Application:
1. Click the 'Add' button in the 'Configuration Profiles' section and
enter the new application for which you want to set the configuration
parameters.
2. To modify the configuration settings of a specific application, for
example, CATIA, select the application from the list in the
'Configuration Profiles' section and click the 'Modify' button.
3. In the 'Default Settings' section select or clear the following checkboxes
according to your requirements:
Overlay Planes
8-Bit double-buffered
Use 8 bits of each 32-bit frame buffer pixel as double-buffered
overlay planes.
Force copy swap
Force blit copy from back to front buffer.
Wait for vertical retrace
Buffer swap 'synched' to vertical retrace. Enable this function for best
picture quality. If you disable ‘Wait for vertical retrace’ you may
experience visual artifacts such as tearing. However, this function may
be disabled for performance benchmarking.
4. Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your Configuration
settings.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
