[INTRODUCTION]

1.1 Foreword
      
    This procedure applies to all Promise FastTrak SX Series adapters and
    onboard chipsets running under the RedHat Linux operating systems.
    Do NOT use this procedure for other versions of Linux.
      
1.2 Support List

       PDC20621         FastTrak SX4000
       PDC20621         FastTrak S150 SX4
       with
       Red Hat 8.0       (kernel 2.4.18-14)
       Red Hat 9         (kernel 2.4.20-8)

1.3 Prepare a Driver Diskette

    You will use a diskette to load the Agent and Utility onto your PC.

    1) Obtain a new, formatted diskette and label it "FastTrak Utility Disk."
       Insert it into your PC's floppy drive.

    2) Extract the contents of the driver file onto your floppy disk. 
       In Windows, run rawrite.exe and follow the prompts.
       In Linux, type: "dd if=ptisxutils-1.30-0.23.i386.rpm of=/dev/fd0 
       bs-10k" and press Enter.


[INSTALLATION]

2.1 To install the the Agent and Utility into an EXISTING SYSTEM:

  1.) Boot linux system and login as root.

  2.) Insert FastTrak Driver Disk and type the following commands to install the
      FastTrak Driver:

		# mount -r /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
		# cd /mnt/floppy
                # sh ./install   (Answer Yes/No when inquire setup configuration)

	Answer Yes to load the FastTrak driver automatically during boot-up.

                # cd ..
                # umount /dev/fd0
 
  3.) Remove the FastTrak Driver Disk and reboot RedHat Linux system.

  
2.2 To install the FastTrak Series Linux Driver into a NEW SYSTEM

  1.) Start the Red Hat Linux Installation booting from the CD-ROM.

  2.) At the "Welcome to Red Hat Linux ..." installation screen, a prompt
      labeled "boot:" will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  3.) Type "linux dd" and press Enter.

  4.) When prompted "Do you have a driver disk?", click Yes.

  5.) When prompted "Insert your driver disk and press OK to continue", insert
      the FastTrak Driver Disk in the floppy drive and click OK.

  6.) When the Devices dialog box appears, select "Add Device."

  7.) When prompted "What kind of device would you like to add?", select "SCSI"
      and click OK.

  8.) Scroll down and select "Promise FastTrak S150 SX4/SX4000 ATA RAID 
      Controller" and click OK.

  9.) When the installer displays "Promise FastTrak S150 SX4/SX4000 ATA RAID 
      Controller has been found", click Done.

  10.) Continue with the installation normally.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
