NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
                -----------------------------------------
Driver Installation for Novell NetWare DOS client
            -------------------------------------------------

  Introduction
  ------------
The architecture of NetWare ODI driver allow you to run multiple
protocol stacks and install up to two network adapters in a workstation.
The provided ODI driver supports the Node Address, Protocol and Frame
type options for customizing your NET.CFG file. The FA310TX specific
keywords are provided at the end of this installation guide. For other
NetWare related keyworks, please refer to Novell's "NetWare ODI shell
  for DOS - NET.CFG options".

This installation assumes that the adapter is working properly.
The Getting Started section describes the installation instructions.

  Getting Started
  ---------------
The DOS ODI driver for the FA310TX network adapter is stored in a
compressed format. To extract the DOS ODI driver, copy the NETWARE.EXE
file from the \NETWARE directory of the driver diskette into the hard
disk. Execute the NETWARE.EXE program. The NetWare DOS ODI driver for
the FA310TX network adapter resides at the ODI.DOS directory.

There are two methods for NetWare client driver installation, driver
installation for NetWare 3.11 and Novell Client install (for NetWare
  3.12 and 4.x).

  Driver Installation for NetWare 3.11
  ------------------------------------
  1. Copy the following three files from the NetWare 3.11 software
      diskettes.

        LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, and NETX.EXE.

  2. Copy into the root directory of the boot disk the FA310TX DOS ODI
driver, NGRPCI.COM, and the configuration file, NET.CFG, extracted
according to the procedure described in the Getting Started section.

  3. Add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS of the client system. This
command assumes that C, D, and E drives exist in this system.

       Lastdriver=E

  3. Add the following lines to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file at the root directory
of the boot disk for the client system.

LSL ; Link Support Layer Module provided by Novell
        NGRPCI ; Hardware Specific Module
IPXODI ; IPX Protocol Stack Module provided by Novell
NETX ; DOS Shell Support Module provided by Novell
F:LOGIN ; Login to file server

  4. Reset the system. The DOS ODI driver will be automatically loaded
      when rebooted.

Novell Client Installation (for NetWare 3.12 and 4.1x)
  ------------------------------------------------------
The necessary files for Novell client installation are stored in
a self-extracting compressed format. The DOS ODI driver, NGRPCI.COM,
and the information file, NGRPCI.INS, need to be extracted prior to
  starting the Novell installation procedure.

    1. Copy the NETWARE.EXE file from the \NETWARE direcotry of the
driver diskette. Enter "NETWARE" at MS-DOS prompt to extract
the FA310TX DOS ODI driver and the information flies.

    2. Run the NetWare Client Install program from NetWare 3.12 or 4.1x.

        - the Client disks can be created from the NetWare 3.12 or 4.1x
          installation CD.

    3. Answer the questions on the screen accordingly. The questions will
include modification of AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, and software
configuration for your workstation for backup by a NetWare server.

    4. When prompted to select a driver for your network board, choose
        "OTHER DRIVERS".

    5. Provide the path where the NetWare ODI drivers for DOS were
previously extracted as described in step 1.

        For example: C:\NETWARE\ODI.DOS.

    6. Select the "NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter".

    7. Specify the driver's optional settings, if needed.

    8. Press F10 to save to new configuration.

    9. Proceed to "Install press here" and press <Enter> to install.

The program copies the necessary files for NetWare DOS client.
Continue the installation procedure to completion. Upon completion,
a new NET.CFG file will be created in your DOS directory.
Typically, this file contains the following lines:

        Link Driver NGRPCI
              FRAME Ethernet_802.3
              FRAME Ethernet_802.2
                    :

A batch file, STARTNET.BAT, for the ODI workstation performs the
        following:

SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH ; Set NetWare 4.X to English language
LSL ; Link Support Layer Module from NetWare
        NGRPCI ; Hardware Specific Module
IPXODI ; IPX Protocol Stack Module from NetWare
VLM ; DOS Support Module from NetWare
F: ; Change to connected device
LOGIN .ADMIN ; Login to file server as user ADMIN

    10. Run STARTNET.BAT to access the NetWare network.

NET.CFG parameters supported by the DOS ODI driver NGRPCI.COM
  -------------------------------------------------------------

SLOT 1 - Forces the driver to search for the specified board

AUTOSENSE - This keyword configures the adapter to conduct
NWay Auto-negotiation to determine the network
speed and the duplex mode of the network connection.

TP - This keyword configures the network port to operate
                      in half-duplex mode.

TP_FULL_DUPLEX - This keyword configures the network port to operate
                      in full duplex mode

The "TP" or "TP_FULL_DUPLEX" keyword must be used in
                      combination with the "LINE_SPEED" keyword.

LINE_SPEED - This keyword configures the network port to operate at
at 10Mbps (Ethernet) or 100Mbps (Fast Ethernet)
                      network speed.

This keyword must be used in combination with the
                      "TP" or "TP_FULL_DUPLEX" keyword.

                      Format: LINE_SPEED <value>
                      Allowed values are: 10,100

For example, the following keywords in NET.CFG forces
the network adapter to operate at 100Mbps half-duplex
                      mode.

                        LINE_SPEED 100
                        TP
