======================================================

Thank you for purchasing this OLYMPUS P-440 digital color printer.
This document includes information that is not described in the Instruction Manual. Read, therefore, this document with the Instruction Manual before using this product.

Notes on Insallation/Uninstallation
===================================

1. Install the printer driver referring to the procedure described in the instruction manual.
Before starting installation, do not connect the printer to the computer.
If the Add New Hardware Wizard is displayed, click on the "Cancel" button to close the
wizard and ensure that the printer is not connected to the computer.

2. To uninstall the driver, follow the procedure described below.
From Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select "OLYMPUS P-440" and click on the "Add/Remove" button.
The driver cannot be uninstalled properly only by deleting the printer icon in the printer setup.

3. When reinstalling the printer driver (installing the driver on a computer on which the driver has been already installed), be sure to uninstall the driver in advance.

4. When you finish uninstallation, be sure to restart the computer.

5. If the printer connection destination of USB is changed, the following operation occurs.
In the case of Windows 2000 (SP3):
A copy of the printer is automatically generated.
In the case of Windows XP:
Perform the operation for printer connection again.
At this time, the Confirm File Replace dialog box is displayed. Click on the "Not to All" button to avoid file overwrite.

6. When you use a Windows 98/Me computer, if printing cannot be performed properly after installation of the driver, perform the following check.
Right-click on "My Computer" and select the "Device Manager" tab from "Properties". If a "!" or "x" mark is displayed for OLYMPUS USB Port, select OLYMPUS USB Port and click on the "Delete" button. After the deletion is complete, remove the printer cable and then insert it again.

7. If the driver cannot be uninstalled properly, contact the customer support center of OLYMPUS.

Notes on use
============

1. In the case of printing in A4 size, a minimum of 50 MB of available memory is required in the hard disk (excluding regions using the OS and applications) in order to prepare printing data.

2. Depending on the specifications or setting of the OS or PC, if processing has been interrupted while printing is in progress, the PRINTING lamp on the printer may continue flashing. At this time, temporarily turn off the printer power and then turn it back on again.

3. If the printer is turned off or the power cable is removed while printing is in progress, print data may remain in the print spooler. At this time, delete the remaining print data and then execute the next print job.

4. If you remove the USB cable after the printer driver was installed, wait more than 5 seconds before connecting it again. Otherwise, the printer may not operate properly. When you turn off and on the printer or change the input selection, wait similarly.

5. If you use the printer driver to perform printing from the computer, set the input selection of the printer to the interface (USB) for connection. Do not change the input selection while printing from the computer is in progress.

6. Pure white portions of the image (R = 255, G = 255, B = 255), are not adjusted. These portions of the image will always print white.

7. While "Please Wait" is displayed on the LCD panel of the printer, printing is not being performed. When the message disappears, printing will resumed automatically.

8. If processing has been interrupted while printing is in progress (while the PRINTING lamp on the printer flashes or lights), temporarily turn off the printer power and then turn it back on again.

9. Set the bi-directional communication function of the printer to "ON".
Method of checking that the bi-directional communication function of the printer is "ON"
In the case of Windows 98/Me:
1) Click on "Start", point "Settings", and click on "Printers".
2) Click on "OLYMPUS P-440" to select it, right-click on it to display the pop-up menu, and click on "Properties".
3) Click on "Spool Settings" in the "Details" tab.
4) Check that "Enable bi-directional support for this printer" is checked.
In the case of Windows 2000/XP:
1) Click on "Start" and then "Control Panel" to select it.
2) Select "Printers and Faxes" from "Printers and Other Hardware".
3) Click on "OLYMPUS P-440" to select it, right-click on it to display the pop-up menu, and click on "Properties".
4) Check that "Enable bi-directional support" in the "Ports" tab is checked.

10. While data is transferred or printing is performed, be sure not to remove the USB cable, not to change the printer input selection, or not to turn off the printer power until printing is completed. Otherwise, abnormal printing may be caused.

11. Do not delete print jobs in the spooler while transferring data. If you delete them inadvertently, temporarily turn off the printer power and then turn it back on.

12. If you select "ICM" for color adjustment on Windows 98/Me, the matching method is limited to "Photo".

13. Even if you have selected "ICM" for color adjustment, the processing may not be enabled depending on the application.

14. If you use a Windows 2000/XP computer, the error dialog displayed by the printer driver may not appear on the application. In this case, see the task bar display.

15. Depending on the version of Photoshop, item "Printer color control" is displayed in the print dialog. When printing with this setting ON after storing multiple pieces of image data in the printer spooler, normal colors may not be printed. When printing with "Printer color control" ON, do not store multiple pieces of image data in the spooler.

16. If you print multiple images from "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" on Windows XP, the printer driver settings are not valid for all images.
Set the printer driver each time you perform printing.

17. If printing is performed from "PictureViewer" on QuickTime, jaggies are generated.

18. In some applications, the number of copies that have been set in the printer driver may not function. Set the number of copies in the print dialog box of the application.

19. Depending on the application, the "Apply" button may not be displayed on the printer driver screen.
Even if the "Apply" button is not displayed, acceleration key operation (Alt + a) is valid.
For acceleration key operation, refer to "Acceleration key operation on printer driver".

20. When printing from an application that is compatible with Print Image MatchingII, do not select "ICM" in "Color Adjustment" of the printer driver. Doing so may cause printing with incorrect hue.
