This Printing System software is required to operate an HP LaserJet 8150 Series. Network clients will need the installation CD, or the name of the appropriate network directory, to install the software on their individual workstations. OVERVIEW OF THE PRINTING SYSTEM SOFTWARE COMPONENTS The printer CD has software for PC systems and Apple Macintosh (and compatible) systems. For more information about a particular driver or software component, see its associated online help. Network Administrator Software Components HP Web JetAdmin HP Web JetAdmin is a tool, which allows the network administrator to configure and manage HP printers across a variety of operating systems. ***NOTE: HP JetAdmin is no longer provided. Network Administrators may get HP Web JetAdmin at the following URL: http://www.hp.com/net_printing/ppss/wja_info.html HP LaserJet Utility for Macintosh OS The HP LaserJet Utility for Macintosh OS is a tool, which allows the network administrators to configure and manage HP printers on the Macintosh OS. HP Resource Manager The HP Resource Manager is a tool which allows you to manage fonts and macros for multiple printers. It supports TrueType, Type 1, bitmap fonts and macros. End-User Software Components Drivers A printer driver is a software program that enables your software applications to access your printer's features. Typically, you should install a printer driver for each printer. The CD includes the following printer drivers. -Windows 3.1x, Windows 95/98/Millennium, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Window XP -PCL 6 and PCL 5e drivers, all having a common-looking Graphical User Interface. -Microsoft PScript driver using PPD files. -Adobe PPD files for Mac OS System 7.5 or greater. -OS/2 PCL and PS drivers. -AutoCAD R15 and DOS drivers. Additional drivers may be available from your Hewlett-Packard distributor or from electronic channels. Software Components The Printing System also includes the following software component for end-users: Stand Alone Status Stand Alone Status provides printer and job status such as jobs waiting to print, toner and paper levels, and the ability to view the control panel. This utility can be configured to pop up when attention is needed at the printer. The latest printer drivers and printing software for HP LaserJet printers are available on the Internet (http://www.hp.com). The installer automatically detects if you have Internet access, and asks if you want to check the HP Internet site for the latest drivers. If the printer drivers or printing software has been updated since your CD was created, the installer will then install from the Internet. ************************************************ II. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
