Installation Notes for Inspiron 3500 Video Drivers

To install the video driver, follow these steps:

 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
 2. In the Control Panel, double-click the Display Icon.
 3. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
 4. Click the Adapter tab, and then click the Change button.
 5. In the Update Device Driver wizard, click Next>.
 6. Click Next> again, Windows will then search for a better driver
 7. Click the Specify a Location checkbox, and remove the check next to
    Floppy disk drives.
 8. Type c:\VIDEO in the box below "Specify a Location" Click Next
    

**If you are reinstalling the video driver, follow the instructions in the 
  Reinstalling section.**

**If you are upgrading the video driver, skip to the Upgrading section.**

Reinstalling:

9. The drivers will be copied from the CD to the hard-disk drive.
    Click Finish when the files have been copied, then Click Yes to
    restart your system. This will allow the driver changes to take effect.
    After the computer restarts, you may change the video resolution to
    1024 by 768.
    1. To do this click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel, double-click the Display Icon.
    3. Click the Settings tab
    4. Move the Screen Area Slider until it reads 1204 by 768, then click OK.  


Upgrading:

9. !!! Important!!! The next window that opens will ask what you want to
    do, choose: "Install one of the other drivers", then click "View List"
    A window will appear showing the driver description, date, provider,
    and Location. The Location should show c:\video\nmgc5.inf, click OK.

10. Click Next, then click Next again.
11. The drivers are installed and show NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV, click Finish.
12. Click Yes to restart the system for the new drivers to take effect.

NOTE: After the computer restarts, you may change the video resolution as
      described in the Reinstalling section.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
