Installation Instructions:

Your computer is shipped with the FGL Graphics Fire GL2 Graphics Accelerator
system and its drivers were installed by Dell and are operative when you
receive the system. Refer to the installation instructions in your
computer’s User’s Guide, if you purchased a customer kit to install the Fire
GL2 Graphics Accelerator to replace your existing graphics solution.
NOTE: If you want to install the Fire GL2 card to replace your
existing graphics solution it may be helpful to set your display
driver to standard VGA before you shut down your PC and remove a
previously installed card.
For your convenience the following procedures describe how to install
the graphics driver software.
You need the information in this section on re-installation of the
basic driver software for Windows NT 4.0 only if you are re-installing
the operating system or if you want to install a driver update.
NOTES:
- The drivers are designed exclusively to support Fire GL2 Graphics
Accelerators with the Windows NT 4.0 operating system. The drivers DO NOT
SUPPORT any other type or brand of graphics card or operating system.
- This device driver requires Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 5 and above
installed.
- Before installing the FGL Graphics Fire GL2 video driver, please close all
open application programs and disable any anti-virus software that is
running on your computer until the driver installation is complete!
Extract Video Driver from the Dell ResourceCD
---------------------------------------------
1. Insert the Dell ResourceCD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
2. If the Dell ResourceCD window does not open automatically, double-click on
'My Computer' on your desktop and then double-click on the CD/DVD-ROM
drive containing the Dell ResourceCD.
3. Follow the instructions provided by the Dell ResourceCD to locate the
video driver package for your card.
4. Once you have located the package, select it to unzip the driver on to the
hard drive. These files are extracted by default to the directory
C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxx (where xxxxx is the name of the driver being
unzipped).
5. At the 'WinZip Self-Extractor' screen, click 'OK'.
6. At the 'Dell Computer Self-Extracting Driver Installation' screen, click
'Unzip'. Once the files have been unzipped, click 'OK'.
7. In a moment, your browser opens with further instructions for installing
the driver.
Install the Video Driver in Windows NT 4.0
----------------------------------------------
NOTE: The following instructions refer to installation of the driver from
your Dell Resource CD. If you downloaded the driver from the Dell
Support web site, then in instruction 3 below type the correct path on
your hard drive where the new driver has been downloaded.
1. This driver must be installed by a user with Windows Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 User's Manual for more information on Administrator
privileges.
2. Start Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
3. Double click on the 'Install.exe' file located with the driver package. If
you extracted the drivers from the Dell Resource CD using the default
directory they will be located in C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxxx (where xxxxx is
the name of the driver being unzipped).
4. At the 'Installation' screen, click 'Next' to begin the driver install
procedure. Follow the installation instructions to install your drivers.
5. Click the 'Next' button to complete the driver installation. Your system
will restart automatically.
Changing Display Driver Settings
--------------------------------
1. From the Windows taskbar, click 'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel'.
2. Double-click the 'Display' icon to access the 'Display Properties'
dialog.
3. Click the 'Settings' tab, then select the desired resolution and color
palette. Refer to 'Using the Adapter' for supported resolutions and color
depth information.
4. Click 'OK' and click 'Yes' to keep your settings.
5. Close the 'Display Properties' dialog box and follow any other on-screen
instructions that may appear in order to activate the new display settings
you have chosen.
6. The re-installation of the Windows NT 4.0 display driver for your Fire GL2
card is now complete.

Uninstallation Instructions:
----------------------------
This section describes how to properly remove your FGL Graphics Fire GL2
software from your system should you need to do so.
NOTE: Before removing the FGL Graphics Fire GL2 video driver, please close
all open application programs and disable any anti-virus software
that is running on your computer until the driver de-installation
is complete!
1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. Select 'Diamond Fire GL2.
3. Click on the 'Remove the Product' button.
4. Click 'Next'.
5. When the uninstall is complete, Windows NT 4.0 will automatically
reboot.

FGL Graphics/Diamond CONFIGURATION FEATURES AND INFORMATION
-----------------------------------------------------------
FGL Graphics/Diamond dialogs in the 'Display Properties' menu allow setting
and adjusting the video settings to suit your requirements best:
Monitor: choose monitors and Gamma correction
Information: display card-specific hardware and driver information
Configuration: customize application profiles
You can display the 'Display Properties'menu by right-clicking the Windows
Desktop background and then selecting the 'Properties' option from the pop-up
menu.
Monitor Dialog
--------------
1. Select the 'Monitor' dialog in the 'Display Properties' window.
You can find more information on setting up the monitor in the
context sensitive online help.
2. Set the desired operation mode for the selected monitor:
Select from list
----------------
Use resolution/refresh rate settings optimized for your specific
monitor.
Select the appropriate Dell monitor type, or DDC Monitor.
If you do not have a Dell or DDC Monitor or are not sure, choose the
Generic Monitor selection.
A list on the right menu panel displays resolutions and - for each
resolution - the maximum refresh rate, as supported by the selected
monitor. If the selected monitor does not support the current video mode
(specified in the 'Settings' dialog), the resolution/
refresh rate setting will be automatically reduced.
Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your monitor selection.
DDC Monitor
-----------
Select this option and click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button if you want
the driver to automatically decode the monitor's DDC (Display Data
Channel) information on each reboot/NT 4.0 start.
To detect a new DDC monitor immediately, click the 'Detect now'
button. An error message will be displayed if the connected monitor
does not support DDC.
Gamma Correction Adjustment
---------------------------
Adjust the monitor's gamma correction for optimal brightness.
When this slider is changed the gamma correction table modifies each
pixel's color value.
The brightness produced at the face of the display is proportional to
the input voltage raised to the power gamma. This nonlinearity must be
compensated to achieve correct reproduction of the image's brightness.
The effect of display gamma is to darken the midtones relative to the
dark and light regions. The gamma correction adjustment affects the
entire screen display. Changes to the gamma correction are saved on
system level, independent of the currently active application profile
The possible setting range is 0.3 - 4.0. The default setting is 1.0.
3. Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your monitor settings.
Information Dialog
------------------
Check the 'Information' dialog in Display Properties window
You see information for detailed hardware and driver information on your
Fire GL2 card. This data may be helpful when contacting Dell's technical
support.
Configuration Dialog (for experienced users only!)
--------------------------------------------------------
If you experience problems with your application, or if you want to try
to optimize the performance of your system on specific applications, you
may modify the configuration settings.
Select the 'Configuration' dialog via the Display Properties window.
You can find more information on the settings in the
'Configuration' dialog in the context sensitive online help.
For some of the most popular applications the optimal configuration
profile is factory-set by default. Select the application from the list
in the 'Configuration Profiles' section. This will change the necessary
Windows NT registry settings.
Click 'Apply' and then restart Windows NT.
1. Click the 'Add' button in the 'Configuration Profiles' section and
enter the new application for which you want to set the configuration
parameters.
2. To modify the configuration settings of a specific application, for
example, Softimage, select the application from the list in the
'Configuration Profiles' section and click the 'Modify' button.
3. In the 'Settings' section select or clear the following checkboxes
according to your requirements:
Overlay Planes
8-Bit double-buffered
Use 8 bits of each 32-bit frame buffer pixel as double-buffered
overlay planes.
8-Bit single-buffered
Use 8 bits of each 32-bit frame buffer pixel as single-buffered
overlay planes.
Force copy swap
Force blit copy from back to front buffer.
Wait for vertical retrace
Buffer swap 'synched' to vertical retrace. This improves the
picture quality but reduces the view performance in, for example,
benchmark testing.
4. Click the 'Apply' or 'OK' button to enable your Configuration
settings.

Complementary Installation Checks
---------------------------------
- Check that the card is properly installed in your system and connected to
your monitor.
- Refer to the documentation that came with your monitor:
Check your connections to the video and power cables.
Try adjusting the brightness, sharpness, and contrast controls of your
monitor.
- Check that the system BIOS has assigned a system interrupt to the AGP slot
where the card is installed.
- Check the system configuration utility of your operating system for the
interrupt assignments.
- Some older ISA legacy (add-in cards with jumpers, non-PnP) may cause a
conflict if they are not configured in the ESCD (extended system
configuration data) area of the system BIOS. Please refer to your computer’s
User’s Guide for information on using the ISA Configuration Utility ICU to
add legacy card resource requirements to the system.

No image appears on monitor when computer system is turned on
-------------------------------------------------------------
- Make sure that the Fire GL2 is firmly seated and lined up properly in its
AGP, and that the monitor cable is firmly and correctly connected to the
card.
- Check the connectors of the video cable - secure it by fastening the screws
- Make sure that your computer and monitor are plugged into electrical outlets
and receiving power.
- Is the monitor turned on and working?
- If possible, select impedance 75 Ohm
Screen image defects appear
---------------------------
- Check that your monitor supports the resolution, horizontal (kHz) and
vertical (Hz) refresh rates as required by the graphics card.
- Check for your current resolution, refresh rate, and color depth settings in
the Settings and Monitor dialogs of the Display Properties dialog.
WARNING: Be sure that both video card and monitor support resolution and
refresh rates you select. Incompatible resolution/refresh rate selection may
result in monitor damage. Refer to your monitor's documentation for
recommended resolutions and refresh rates.
Screen image is off-center, color balance is wrong, or there is no picture
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Try adjusting the brightness, sharpness, contrast, and color balance
controls of your monitor.
- Try adjusting the centering and positioning controls of your monitor to
position the picture on the screen.
- Set the monitor’s RGB inputs (and sync switches, if this option is
available) to 75 Ohms, with the sync set to external.
Operating system warns that the video card is not configured properly
---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Check the driver installation and make sure that all software is correctly
loaded corresponding to your operating system and applications.
- Set Windows NT back to 'Standard VGA' and re-install the Fire GL2
drivers.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
