   Instructions for updating Dell Laser MFP 1600n network adapter (NIC) firmware using file "rom_V1[1].08(1600n).axf":

 1.  Open the 1600n EWS (embedded web server) using your web browser program, enter the IP address of your network 1600n printer in the address bar.

 2.  When the EWS page loads, click on "Printer Information" and check the current version of firmware already on the printer.

 3.  If an upgrade is needed, click on "Printer Settings" on the EWS page.

 4.  Click on "Update Print Server Firmware".

 5.  Select "Update Network Firmware".

 6.  Click "Browse" and locate the file "rom_V1[1].08(1600n).axf" on  your hard disk drive.  Typical location should be "C:\Dell\Drivers\R89344".

 7.  Select the rom file and click "Open".

 8.  Click on the "Update Network Firmware" button and wait for a few moments until the message appears that the update has been sent.  NOTE:  DO NOT power the printer OFF or disconnect cables during this operation!

 9.  Check LCD display on the printer to make sure the update is complete prior to using the printer, turning the printer off or unplugging the network. 

10.  You may check the firmware version by clicking on ""Printer Information" from the main EWS page menu.  "NIC's S/W Version" should now be shown as V1.08(1600n).

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
