SMC Fast IR Drivers ReadMe Document 1. Introduction The SMC IrCC Vcomm Device Driver combined with portions of the Microsoft Infrared Stack MSIR20, enables the Fast Infrared hardware to communicate with IrDA V1.1 compliant devices using wireless infrared technology for the purposes of communication, printing and networking. 2. Driver Files The release diskette contains the following files: * Release.Doc - this file * SmcSer.Vxd - Vcomm Port Driver for SMC IrCC * SmcSer.Inf - the installation file for the SmcSer.Vxd Vcomm Port Driver * SmcIrlap.Vxd enhanced framer that allows fast infrared speed communications * SmcIrlap.Inf - installation file for the SmcIrlap.Vxd * SmcIrlap.reg - registry file that creates DWORD values 3. Characteristics * Driver Type: Port Driver loaded by Vcomm * Target O/S: Windows 95 * Target Hardware: SMC IrCC (Infrared Communications Controller) * Network Standard: IrDA V1.1 * Speeds Supported (all IrDA 1.1 speeds): SIR: 2.4, 9.6, 19.2, 38.4, 57.6, 115 Kbps FIR: 0.576, 1.152, 4.0 Mbps (requires DMA channel) 4. Software Requirements Windows OSR2 and Microsoft Infrared Support for Windows 95 Version 2.0 (known as MSIR20 or IrDA2.0). The infrared software must be installed on the unit before installing the SMC drivers. NOTE: The MSIR20 software is included with Windows 95 OSR2 and should be installed by default. If the software has been removed, it can be accessed through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel. 5. SMC Fast IR Driver Installation Instructions The installation for the SMC Fast IR Driver is a 2 step process: A. Installing the SMC Fast Infrared Device Driver B. Installing the SMC Fast Infrared Framer >>A. Installing the SMC Fast Infrared Driver The SMC Fast IR Driver is installed through the Device Manager by updating the MSIR20 driver. 1. To run the Device Manager, right-click on the My Computer icon, select the Properties option from the popup menu, and then click the Device Manager tab in the System Properties dialog. 2. To display the Microsoft infrared device, in the System Properties dialog, make sure the View devices by type option is selected. Then click the plus sign to the left of the Ports(COM & LPT) device class label. Select the "Generic Ir Serial Port" name and click the Properties button. 3. To update the driver, in the Properties dialog, select the Driver tab. Then click Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard will open. Insert the SMC Fast IR Driver disk. Then select YES(Recommended), and click the Next button. 4. The Wizard will find the SMC IrCC(Fast Infrared) Hardware & Driver. Select Finish. 5. After the driver is installed, a prompt to reboot will be displayed. Select Yes. >>B. Installing the SMC Infrared Framer The Infrared Framer is installed through the Windows Explorer. 1. Insert the SMC Driver disk into drive a:\. From the Windows Explorer, select a:\. 2. Select the file SmcIrlap.Inf. Right click on the file, from the pop-up menu, select Install. 3. When prompted for the path, type a:\. This will complete the SMC Driver installation. Using the Infrared Monitor To begin infrared communications, you must enable the infrared software. 1. Open the control panel : Select the Start button. Then select Settings from the menu, then select Control Panel. 2. The Infrared Monitor icon name is in the Control Panel,. Open the Infrared Monitor by double clicking the icon. 3. When the Infrared Monitor is opened, the infrared communication will be enabled. Use the Infrared Monitor to control the settings for the infrared software.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
