OVERVIEW **************************************************************************** The SMSC IrCC Software Installation Utility installs to the target system a Windows* INF file and a smcirda.sys file which outline to the operating system how the IrCC components will be configured. This is needed for the proper functioning of the following features: - IrDA Ver 1.1 Wireless Infrared Technology Support - Correct Configuration of SMSC IrCC components - Correct Identification of SMSC IrCC Components in Device Manager **************************************************************************** * 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS **************************************************************************** 1. The software included with this distribution package is designed to operate only with SMSC IrCC devices. 2. The following are the only operating systems supported in this release: Windows 2000 To verify which operating system has been installed onto the target system, follow the steps below: a. Click on Start. b. Select Settings. c. Select Control Panel. d. Double-click on the System icon. e. Click on the General system properties tab. f. Verify which OS has been installed by reading the System information. 3. The software should be installed on systems with at least 32 MB of system memory. Please check with your system provider to determine which operating system, and if SMSC IrCC is installed in your system. **************************************************************************** * 3. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE **************************************************************************** 1. Check the System Requirements. The operating system must be fully installed and running on the system before running this software. 2. Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may experience difficulties. 3. Run the InstallShield* installation program SETUP.EXE, located in the Installation Utility disk, from the Start\Run prompt. 4. Setup.exe will then install the SMSC Ircc INF files, and System files to your hard drive. 5. This completes the Software Installation Utility for SMSC IrCC Miniport Device Driver Version 4.10.1999.4. **************************************************************************** * 4. UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE **************************************************************************** 1. Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may experience difficulties. 2. Run the InstallShield* installation program SETUP.EXE, located in the Installation Utility diskette, from the Start\Run prompt, a second time, in order to uninstall this software. 3. You will be prompted to agree to the uninstallation. 4. If you agree to uninstall, SETUP.EXE will remove all installed SMSC IrCC INF files and components in Device Manager, and reboot the system. 5. Before and after the operating system has rebooted, follow the on-screen instructions and use the default settings to complete the uninstallation. 6. This completes the Software Uninstallation Utility for SMSC IrCC Miniport Device Driver Version 4.10.1999.4. **************************************************************************** * 5. REVISION HISTORY **************************************************************************** r1.21 - 07/19/02 Added ability to remove driver as part of uninstall under Windows 2000. r1.22 - 07/26/02 Fixed error where the Setup progress bar ended at 80%. r1.30 - 11/20/02 Added additional language support of Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish and Thai. Also modified script so that now will only install on Windows 2000. r1.31 - 11/27/02 Fixed problem when Windows does not install the new driver because the user chooses "No" when prompted by the Device Manager due to the language difference between the driver and the operating system. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
