1. Introduction
---------------

The SMSC IrCC NDIS Miniport Device Driver enables hardware containing 
an SMSC IrCC (Infrared Communications Controller) to communicate with 
IrDA Ver.1.1 compliant devices using wireless infrared technology for 
the purposes of communication, printing and networking.  

This version of the driver updates SmcIrda.sys version 4.10.1999.2, 
which is included with Microsoft Windows 2000 CD-ROM. 


2. Characteristics

3. Updating on PnP System
-------------------------

In a system with PnP BIOS support for the IrCC, use the following 
procedure to update the driver from the one that is already in the 
system:

Closing all Windows programs is strongly recommended when updating 
a driver.

1.  Log on as “Administrator.”
2.  Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manger. 
3.  Select Infrared Devices and double click on the SMC IrCC - Fast 
	Infrared Port. 
4.  Go to Driver tab -> “Update Driver….”
5.  Choose “Display a list of the known drivers for this device, so 
	I can choose a specific driver.”
6.  Click “Have Disk….”
7.  Insert the disk that contains updated driver (SmcIrda.sys) with 
	INF file (IrdaSmc.inf), or point to the directory where they 
	are located by choosing “Browse…” and choose SMC IrCC - Fast 
	Infrared Port from Infrared Device and click Next.
8.  Click Finish to finish the wizard.


4. Confirm Update
-----------------

To confirm the update of the driver, go to Control Panel -> System 
-> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Infrared Devices -> SMC IrCC - Fast 
Infrared Port -> Driver. Click “Driver Details….” Confirm the File 
version is 4.10.1999.4.

5. Using Microsoft Wireless Link
--------------------------------

To transfer files using Infrared, select a file (e.g., in Explorer), 
and right-click on it.  In the pop-up menu, select Send To -> 
Infrared Recipient.  Files will be received by the partner station. 
Alternatively, Wireless Link window can be opened by just click the 
IR icon on the taskbar or in the Control Panel.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
