INSTALLATION
To install this update, double-click the file Bway2_5_1u.hlp and follow the instructions.

1) If you expect to save Broadway settings to a preference file, and you are running Windows 95, you may want to install Broadway to the default folder, c:\Broadway. Due to a Windows 95 limitation, Broadway will not be able to find the preference file if you install to a folder with a long file name, such as c:\Program Files\Broadway.

2) During installation of video streaming files, if you abort the VDOLive installation, some VDOLive files may be left on your system.

COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
For a list of the most current known compatibility issues, see the Broadway web site's technical support page at http://www.b-way.com/tech/tech.htm.

1) Use the most current version of the drivers for your graphics card and sound card. Check the card vendors' web sites for the latest drivers, or contact the vendors.

2) Broadway will generally not work with the following PCs: Acer Aspire Series, IBM Aptiva PCs, OPTi PCI/VESA PCs based on the 82C596 or 82C597 chip sets, VIA PCs based on the VT82C577 chip set, PCI-based docking stations, and any PC based on the Intel Pentium Pro 450 chip set.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS WITH BROADWAY
1) If you output an .AVI file to videotape and then view that videotape as source video in Broadway, you might see a band along the side of the video window. This is merely a PC display problem; the band will not appear when you play the videotape on a television monitor.

2) If you edit or output a non-Broadway .AVI file to videotape, Broadway will first convert the file to a Broadway .AVI file. In doing so, the resulting video might not be in the correct format (NTSC or PAL). To work around this problem, set the Video Format in Capture Options to the format you want (NTSC or PAL). Then select New/View Source Video from the File menu. Insert the non-Broadway .AVI file you want to edit or output to tape. Broadway will convert the file to the format you specified in capture options. Then you can continue editing or output the file to videotape.

3) On occasion, Broadway creates an .MPG file in which some frames appear to slide to the left side of the screen while the file plays. Compress the file again and the new .MPG file should play correctly.

4) If you use the Auto detect Video Option for Capture while an NTSC source video device is connected and then select the PAL Video Format, Broadway might hang. To change from Auto detect for NTSC to PAL, keep Auto Detect selected, connect your PAL source video device, and then select New/View Source Video from the File menu.

ISSUES WITH RELATED APPLICATIONS
1) Under Windows 95, an .AVI file cannot be larger than 2 GB. This is a limitation with Microsoft Video for Windows (used by Broadway), which Microsoft is addressing. This limitation means that if you run Windows 95 you cannot capture or create (via editing) an .AVI file that exceeds 2 GB.

For Windows NT 4, the .AVI capture file size limit varies based on the capture options selected, but is equivalent to an 18-minute video. There is a work-around that allows you to capture up to 2 GB -- see the technical tip about this topic on Broadway's web site (http://www.b-way.com/tech/tech.htm).

2) When setting Broadway compression options for Audio channels, do not use Joint stereo if you select a low audio data rate. The combination might result in distorted audio on some MPEG players. Either use a higher audio data rate or use Stereo for the audio channels.

3) If you use ActiveMovie and MediaPlayer to play an .MPG file that has no audio and is longer than three minutes (approximately), the .MPG file will not play. This is a limitation with Microsoft's ActiveMovie.

4) If you create a Broadway 320 by 240 .AVI file in Ulead MediaStudio (or another video editing application such as Adobe Premiere) and then open the .AVI file in Broadway and output it to videotape, there will be a band on the video. There is a work-around for this problem: insert the .AVI file into Broadway (instead of opening it in Broadway) and then output to videotape; there will not be a band on the video.

VIDEO CD ISSUES
1) Broadway provides two types of video CD MPEG compression formats, stream mixed and unmixed. Some video CD creation packages only accept stream mixed MPEG files, some only accept unmixed MPEG files, and some accept both stream mixed and unmixed MPEG files. See your video CD creation package to determine which MPEG formats it supports.

If you use Corel CD Creator 2, unmixed MPEG files might not work. If you experience this problem, use stream mixed MPEG files.

2) You can find information regarding known issues with certain video CD players on the Broadway web site (http://www.b-way.com/tech/tech.htm).
