README.TXT Driver File Contents (NewSfx.exe)

This CD-ROM contains the Windows 98 and Windows NT 4 drivers for the
3Com USR 56K data/fax/voice modems with the following product numbers:
2976, 3298, and 2977. These are PCI-based controller modems.


Installing in Windows 98:
=========================

After inserting the modem in a PCI slot and starting Windows 98, the
installation wizard will note that a new device was detected and prompt you
for drivers. Insert this CD-ROM into the drive and instruct the Wizard to
look for the driver in the directory with your modem's model number.


Installing in Windows NT 4.0:
=============================

After inserting the modem in a PCI slot and starting Windows NT, login
using an account with Administrator privileges. Insert this CD-ROM into the
drive and run the SETUP.EXE program in the directory with your modem's
model number.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
