Installation Notes for Inspiron 3500 Video Drivers
---------------------------------------------------

To install the video driver, follow these steps:

 1. Insert the Dell Inspiron 3500 System Software CD into the CD-ROM 
    or optional DVD-ROM drive.
 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
 3. In the Control Panel, double-click the Display Icon.
 4. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
 5. Click the Adapter tab, and then click the Change button.
 6. In the Update Device Driver wizard, click Next>.
 7. Click Next> again, Windows will then search for a better driver
 8. Click the Specify a Location checkbox, and remove the check next to Floppy disk drives.
 9. Type c:\video in the box below "Specify a Location", then Click Next



**If you are installing the video driver, follow the instructions in the 
  installing section.**

**If you are upgrading the video driver from a previous version, 
  skip to the Upgrading section.**

Installing:
10. Click Next to use the updated driver "NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV"
    In the following window, be sure the location of the driver is c:\video\nmgc5.inf, then     click Next.
11. Click Finish when the files have been copied, then Click Yes to restart your system.
    This will allow the driver changes to take effect. 

After the computer restarts, you may change the video resolution to 1024 by 768.
1. To do this click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel, double-click the Display Icon.
3. Click the Settings tab
4. Move the Screen Area Slider until it reads 1024 by 768, you may also raise the colors to    High Color (16Bit) then click OK.  


Upgrading:

10. !!! Important!!! The next window that opens will ask what you want to do, choose:
    "Install one of the other drivers", then click "View List"
    A window will appear showing the driver description, date, provider, and 
    Location. Click the NeoMagic driver that shows a location of c:\video\nmgc5.inf, click      OK. There may be more than one driver with the same location, choose either driver.
11. Click Next. In the following window, be sure that the location of the driver says         c:\video\nmgc5.inf, then click Next again.
12. The drivers are installed and show NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV, click Finish.
13. Click Yes to restart the system for the new drivers to take effect.

After the computer restarts, you may change the video resolution to 1024 by 768.

2. In the Control Panel, double-click the Display Icon.
3. Click the Settings tab

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
