For this installation please print out this README.TXT using NOTEPAD. Procede according to the instructions below. Do not run any of the LanModem's install programs, these are unnecessary for the NT environment. Before inserting your LanModem PC Card, the system's PCMCIA chipset must be enabled and functioning. The PCMCIA chipset is responsible for controlling the systems interface for PC Cards. Please consult the system's manual or manufacture for use with Windows NT. Multifunction PC Cards put a heavy demand on a system's resources. Please resolve all system conflicts, errors, and Windows NT issues before installing the LanModem. Running Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 1 may cause some portable PCs to hang up on Shutdown or Restart. Please updating to Service Pack 3. Please have the installation media for Windows NT ready for any file request. The following installation does require a basic knowledge of the NT environment. Getting Started for Windows NT3.51 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Remove all PC Cards from the system Start/Boot Windows NT Login with a user with full access (ie. ADMINISTRATOR) Remove any previous network support -Open the PROGRAM MANAGER -Open the MAIN group -Run the CONTROL PANEL -Run the NETWORK selection -Highlight each network option and remove them Note: Remove any adapters first, then server, workstation, etc. -After all support is removed, press CLOSE -Restart Windows NT Add PCMCIA Support to your laptop -Open the PROGRAM MANAGER -Open the MAIN group -Run the CONTROL PANEL -Run the DEVICES selection -Select PCMCIA -Press STARTUP -Select BOOT so that it will start each time NT boots. -Press OK -After all PCMCIA support is added press CLOSE -Restart Windows NT Verify the system will reboot without any errors in the Event Viewer Consult your Laptop manufacture for any problems that may develop during pre-installation. Insert LanModem into one of the system's PCMCIA Slots Boot/Start Windows NT Login with a user with full access (ie. ADMINISTRATOR) Open the PROGRAM MANAGER Open the MAIN group Run the CONTROL PANEL Run the NETWORK selection Press YES to install network support Supply a path of the NT installation media (ie NT CD-ROM: D:\i386) Press DO NOT DETECT for the network adapter Pull the NETWORK ADAPTER CARD selection list to the bottom Select <OTHER> REQUIRES DISK FROM MANUFACTURE Click CONTINUE button Insert the LanModem driver disk into drive A: Supply the followng path to the drivers A:\ Highlight the only choice for the LanModem and press OK A dialog box will appear to adjust the driver's settings. Adjust the driver to the system's resources, these selections must be unique for this device. We cannot help configure these because they are unique for each network. Please see the Network Administrator for help. Once all Network software is loaded Press OK The configuration and bindings for the card may be confirmed, answer the questions accordingly. Allow the system to reboot. Connect to a network using the provide 10BaseT cable Test the adapter -Open the PROGRAM MANAGER -Open the MAIN group -Run the FILE MANAGER -Select DISK on the menu -Select CONNECT TO NETWORK DRIVE -If any computers are displayed on the network the system is working The card installations is complete should any error arise in the EventViewer please start at the top of the document again. Also please see the next section to configure NT properly for the use of the fax/modem. NT Communication Configuration ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ If NT is not running Boot/Start NT Login with a user with full access Test the adapter -Start/Boot NT -Login with a username that has full rights -Open the PROGRAM MANAGER -Open the ACCESORIES group -Run the FILE MANAGER -Run TERMINAL -Under SETTING, select Communications Configuration -Select the COM port. -Select up to 57.6K for communcations, Press OK -In the terminal window if you can type ATZ{enter} and it returns OK you are finished. NT Modem Configuration ---------------------- Open the MY COMPUTER Run the CONTROL PANEL Run the MODEMS Using default setting and press NEXT button System should have detected your card, and will enter the Modem Manufactures & Models selecting screen Press FINISH and then CLOSE to complete modem setting Allow the system to reboot The card installation for both LAN and Modem is complete. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
