NETGEAR FA312/FA311 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
Driver Installation for Novell NetWare Server version 5.0

  Getting Started
The following instructions use the FA312 as an example. However, all
examples applying to FA312 can be extended the FA311.

  Installation Procedure
  1. Boot up the Novell Server.

Upon power up, NetWare indicates that new hardware is found but
the system is unable to find a matching driver:

      PCI Lan Controller 100B.0020.1385.F312.00

  2. Press <Enter> for a list of drivers to install.
  3. Press <Ins> to install an unlisted driver.

The FA312 adapter driver is not included in the NetWare 5.0 release
  4. Press <F3> to specify a different path.
  5. In the Specify a directory path window, provide the path where the
FA312.LAN driver resides and hit Enter.

        eg. A:\NWSERVER\SERVER\NW50

  6. Select "FA312.LAN" to start the installation procedure.

  7. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to copy driver FA312.LAN.

  8. Choose the "Select/Modify driver parameters and protocols" selection
and move the cursor to the FA312_1 parameters window to change the
      the slot number.
A slot number must be entered before the installation can proceed.
You can make the slot number 1. Even though the slot number may
not be correct, the FA312.LAN driver automatically find the FA312
card and load the proper slot number.

You do not have to enter any value for media and line speed or the
Node address. The driver can use the default value for these
  9. Choose "Save parameters and load driver" to start the driver loading

NetWare starts examining network for IPX external network numbers.

  10. Hit <Enter> when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
      FA312_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_802.2).
  11. Hit <Enter> when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
      FA312_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_SNAP).

  12. Hit Enter when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
      FA312_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_II).

  13. Hit Enter when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
      FA312_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_802.3).

All four supported Ethernet frame types are loaded.

  14. Select "No" when asked if you want to select an additional Network

  15. Select "Return to the previous menu" in the Additional Driver Actions
  16. Hit <Esc> a number of times to exit to the NetWare Configuration main
menu. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to exit INSTALL.

  17. When existing to the main, the FA312 driver is already loaded for the
      adapter card.

Manually modifying Software on an existing NetWare 5.0 Server
The following instructions use the FA312 as an example. However, all
exmaples applying to FA312 can be extended the FA311.

  1. Copy the FA312.LAN file into the subdirectory of your server.
      For example:

  2. Run SERVER.EXE on the server.

  3. At the NetWare prompt, enter "load nwconfig" to edit the
      AUTOEXEC.NCF file.

  4. In the Configuration Options menu, select "NCF files Options".
  5. In the Available NCF Files Options, select <Edit AUTOEXEC.NCF file>.

  6. Modify the server AUTOEXEC.NCF file as follows:

        load C:\NWSERVER\FA312.LAN frame=Ethernet_yyyy name=FA312_1_zzz
;zzz is a unique 3-digit number
; for every frame type loaded.
;yyyy is the Ethernet frame type.
bind ipx FA312_1_zzz net=xxxx ;xxxx is the network number (eg. 33)

  7. Press the <Esc> key when done editing. Select "Yes" to save.

  8. Select "Exit" to exit NetWare Configuration.
  9. Reboot the server system. The driver is now installed.

Parameters supported by the FA312.LAN or FA311.LAN driver
SLOT 1 - Forces the driver to search for the specified board

LineSpeed - Select connection type of the Fast Ethernet PCI
                    adapter card.

                    = 1 Auto-Negotiation
                    = 2 Line speed = 10
                    = 3 Line speed = 100

FDUP - Select the duplex mode of the adapter card. This
parameter works only when LineSpeed is not set to Auto-

                    = 1 Full duplex on
                    = 2 Full duplex off

    > LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\FA312.LAN LineSpeed=2 FDUP=1

If you experience the "Command Line Parameter for FA312" warning
message when STARTNET.BAT is executed, provide the slot number
at the command line in STARTNET.BAT as illustrated below.

SLOT must be the correct value as found by the driver.

  Sample AUTOEXEC.NCF file
#Working with FA312 driver (one PCI card)
    load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_ii name=e1
    load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.2 name=e2
    load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.3 name=e3
    bind ipx to e1 net=10
    bind ipx to e2 net=20
    bind ipx to e3 net=30

#Working with FA312 driver (multiple PCI cards)
    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_ii name=e5 slot=1 ; card #1
    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.2 name=e6 slot=1 ; card #1
    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.3 name=e7 slot=1 ; card #1
    #bind ipx to e5 net=100
    #bind ipx to e6 net=200
    #bind ipx to e7 net=300

    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_ii name=e5 slot=2 ; card #2
    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.2 name=e6 slot=2 ; card #2
    #load c:\nwserver\FA312 frame=ethernet_802.3 name=e7 slot=2 ; card #2
    #bind ipx to e5 net=50
    #bind ipx to e6 net=60
    #bind ipx to e7 net=70
