VIA Firewire Card Install Info


6306 Chip (Possibly 6307 too)
If you are trying to get this card to work under Windows XP you Have found the right place. I too had trouble but finally succeeded. I hope that these instructions will help. If you want technical info about the VIA 6306 fire wire card Click Here to get the manual 

Note You must have PCI 2.2 on your motherboard, not PCI 2.1 or lower.
1. Click Here to download required file.
2. Turn off computer.
3. Remove Firewire Card from computer.
4. Turn computer back on.
5. Extract files from downloaded zip file to a temp location.
6. At temp location find file 1394.zip and extract it to CWindowsSystem32 (assuming standard windows installation)
7. Extract 1394.zip to second temp location.
8. At second temp location right click on all .inf files and select install.
9. Turn off computer.
10. Put firewire card back into computer (into a different PCI slot if you can)
11. Turn computer back on and pray that windows detects it and installs drivers.
12. Delete both temp locations. 

If these instructions don't work i'm sorry you had to do so much to end up the same way. 
Your PCI slot may be bad or the card may be bad. Who knows. Try going to the VIA Support Forums. or here http://www.nthelp.com/NT6/data_is_invalid.htm 

Note I have reason to believe that the following motherboards won't work with this firewire card

ABIT BH6, Pentium III-450 CPU.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
