Note: These files can be used on both Windows95 and
      Windows NT4.0 based systems

      Windows NT4.0 does not support Plug'N'Play. For
      information on how to install Plug'N'Play support
      for Windows NT4.0, please see below.

      For the Kookaburra COMBO PCMCIA card and Windows NT4.0
      please, use the driver files in the sub-directory \NT4COMBO

HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT
==========================

To view Readme.txt on screen in Notepad.
To print Readme.txt, open it in Notepad, and then on the File menu,
click Print.

INSTALLATION
==============

To take full advantage of using your modem with Microsoft Windows 95 and
Windows NT 4.0, it is recommended that you install the modem information file
provided. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to follow the Uninstall procedure first.

Driver Uninstall Procedure
============================

1. Open a DOS Prompt Window by selecting "Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt"
2. Change directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF (or C:\WINNT\INF)
3. Type "dir oem*.inf" and press <ENTER>
4. View each "oem" file (using DOS edit) and delete the files that
   contain AusLinx
5. If using OSR2, change directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER, otherwise go
   to step 8
6. Type "dir" and press <ENTER>
7. View each INF file (using DOS edit) and delete the files that contain AusLinx
8. Type "exit" and press <ENTER>
9. Open "regedit" by going "Start/Run" then typing "regedit" in the box, and
   press <ENTER>
10. Double-click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and then "Enum"
11. Double-click on "ISAPNP" then select and delete anything that starts with
    "WCI"
12. Double-click on "MODEMWAVE" then select and delete anything that says
    AusLinx, Tasmanian Devil or Redback.
13. Double-click on "SERENUM" then select and delete anything that starts with
    "WCI" or "WSC"
14. Double-click on "PCMCIA" then select and delete anything that says AusLinx
    or Rockwell.
15. Close Regedit.

To install Plug'N'Play for Windows NT 4.0
===========================================

Ensure that the ISA Plug and Play capabilities are installed from the
Windows NT 4.0 CDROM before installing your Internal Plug and Play Modem.
This support is not installed by a default Windows NT 4.0 installation.
To install the PnP support for ISA do the following:

  1. Open Windows NT Explorer from the Start menu.
  2. Open the Windows NT 4.0 CDROM.
  3. Open the folder "drvlib"
  4. Open the folder "PNPISA"
  5. Open the folder "X86"
  6. Right-click on the file "pnpisa.inf" and choose "Install"

This will add ISA Plug and Play support to your Windows NT 4.0 configuration
and you may now install your Internal Plug and Play modems into your machine.

To install the modem, please follow these instructions
========================================================

Installation

*Plug&Play modem under Windows95: (please try this option first)

        If your modem card is external type, use Windows95's Start button,
        then select Settings/Control Panel/System, under System, select
        Device Manager, then select Refresh button.
        If your modem is internal type, just plug in the modem and power
        on the PC.

        Windows95 will prompt you a new hardware have been found
        and request for driver.

        Please select Driver from manufacture and insert this driver disk.

*Internal Plug&Play modem under DOS:

        Insert your modem into PC correctly.

        If your PC do not support Plug&Play BIOS, then your modem card
        may not work correctly. Please run setpnp.exe included in this
        disk to set the modem to desired comm port. For more information
        about setpnp.exe please see setpnp.txt.
                                    
*Non Plug&Play modem under Windows95 & WindowsNT4.0:

        Insert your modem into PC correctly(internal) or connect to serial
        port of your PC(external).

        Push Windows95's Start button, then select
        Settings/Control Panel/Modem, under Modem, Select Add, then check
        the "Don't auto detect modem,..." and push Next, then select Have a
        disk and push Next.

        Insert the driver disk and follow the steps.

Caution:
    Windows NT4.0 do not support Plug&Play modem. Please use legacy modem
    instead or install the Windows NT4.0 Plug'N'Play support files first.

Your modem will now be available to Windows 95 and NT 4.0 applications
including Microsoft Fax (if your modem is fax capable) and HyperTerminal.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
================

Installing the Voice modem INF
------------------------------------

If the modem is automatically detected, and Windows 95 is not supporting
Unimodem V, the modem will be support data/fax only.

To obtain UNIMODEM V FUNCTIONALITY 
=========================================================
Unimodem V support is available through Microsoft Product Support 
Services (PSS). The PSS sales phone number is 1800 626 454 (ask for
information on UNIMODEM V drivers) or try connecting to MICROSOFT's 
WEB PAGE for latest product updates.
The ftp address for the latest UNIMODEMV driver file release is :-

  ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/unimodv.exe

Unimodem V is the newest release of Unimodem, This driver adds the 
most commonly requested features to support data/fax/voice modems,
including wave playback and recording to and from the phone line, 
wave playback and recording to/from the handset, and support for 
speakerphones, caller ID, distinctive ringing, and call forwarding.

WAVE DEVICE FOR VOICE MODEM INSTALLATION

If your system has troubles installing a "Voice Modem" you may need to
follow the following process.
Windows 95 will detect new hardware found. To install these modems
correctly, you will need to :-

(1) select from a list of alternative drivers
(2) click on "OK"
(3) From the manafactures list - select "Microsoft"
(4) From the models list - select "Rockwell Voice Modem Serial Wave Device"

This will complete the installation for voice type/based modems.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
