.TXT FILE:

Text file you may read with any text editor.

.BIN FILE:

Binary file often used for BIOS or Firmware source code

.ZIP FILE:

Archive file need be decompressed using PKUNZIP or WINZIP. Unzip utilities are available from www.shareware.com.

.EXE FILE:

Self-extract Archive can be launched by itself. After the file is downloaded to your local drive, simply double click on it in Windows or type its file name and press [Enter] key in DOS prompt to decompress the files. It may display a readme file or run a setup program at the end of the decompression. Uncheck the "Run SETUP" option, if you are not ready.

FIRMWARE and Flash Utility:

The Firmware is Binary Code programmed into the modem memory to make it function. When there are Flash ROM equipped with the modem, the new Firmware code(.BIN file) can be downloaded to the modem using the Flash Utility.

The utility for DOS must be run from DOS Command Prompt (not a DOS window) and the Windows version have to be run under Windows. The utility is no longer needed for normal modem applications.

The modem drivers need be reinstalled if the modem is not set to PnP, since Windows does not automatically detect non-PnP device.

DRIVERS and Driver Installation .INF files:

Since Windows 95/98/NT4.0 have the modem drivers built into the system, we provide the driver information files (.INF) for installing the proper device drivers and configure them properly.

Windows 3.1x as well as NT3.x and DOS do not provide any MODEM DRIVER. The communication software access the modem directly. Refer to the AT Commands or S-Registers listed in the Hardware User Manual to customize the modem configuration initialization string for special application.

The Windows 3.1x provide a Communication Port Driver with a maximum port rate of 19.2Kbps. The application software running under Windows 3.1x usually provide an updated COMM driver to achieve a higher transfer rate.

For Windows NT 4.0, ISA PNP support must be installed if your modem is configured as a PnP device. It is located in PNPISA directory on your MicroSoft Windows NT4.0 CD. Please refer to your Microsoft manual for installation instruction or contact your network administrator.
