        	!! Update program must be run in DOS environment !! 
***********************************************************************

Read this document throughly before you begin:
==============================================
1. Decompress the .zip file to a DOS formatted floppy diskette or a directory on your hard drive which can be accessed when the PC is booted up to DOS command prompt.
 
2. Make sure the jumpers on the modem board are installed and configured properly before you run the flash utility. Do not share the Com Port address and Interrupt (IRQ) with the Serial (UART) Port on the Main Board. 

3. MS DOS Diagnostic program MSD can also be run to show the Com port and IRQ setting of your system, but it fail to show the correct information if the hardware is not configured properly. Write down the Com Port and IRQ used by your modem to a piece of paper for future reference.

4. Running this flash utility under Windows will cause system hang. Turn off the computer and restart again.

5. Reinstall the modem driver if the modem is not set to PnP.
 
Running Firmware Update software:
=================================
1. Start the computer and select DOS Command Proprmpt, or insert a bootable DOS diskette in A: and boot the system in DOS.

2. If your modem  is set to PnP, insert the disk containes the flash utility and run the Batch file V90PNP.BAT.

3. If your modem is set manually, find out which COM Port is used as described above. Then, run the Batch file V90COMx.BAT (where x is COM Port Number). 

4. Do not turn off computer untill it finish.
   

Verification and Trouble Shooting:
==================================
1. Start Windows 95/98, goto Control Panel->Modem Properties -> Diagnose -> More Info, the modem firmware information should be shown as below:
		ATI1	CD04.08 - 606 Parallel (V.90 ONLY)

2. If you get a message "Can't Open Port", remove the modem entry from the "Modem Property" "General" page, and restart the computer to reinstall the modem driver.

3. For other Operating Systems, simply use the software to see if there is any problem.

Reinstall Modem Drivers:
========================
1. Windows 95/98 will not automatically update your modem driver if it is not set to PnP. In this case, go to Control Panel ->Modems->Add-> let Windows to detect the hardware. 

2. The Windows should find the newly upgraded modem and install the modem driver for it if Windows found the .INF file for it. 

3. If Windows detected the "standard modem", click on "change" and enter the location of modem driver .INF files. Select "Cirrus 56K bps Modem Internal (CL-GD5650)". Do not use .INF files from the old "Communicator 56" or "Explorer 56 / plus" Software CD.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
