(1) Overview

The PostScript Level 2 Compatible printer driver is compatible with PostScript Level 2. It generates Postscript Level 2 compatible commands. 

The PostScript Level 2 Compatible printer driver for Windows 95/98/Me is located in \DRIVERS\PS\WIN9X_ME\(Language).

The PostScript Level 2 Compatible printer driver for Windows NT4.0 is located in \DRIVERS\PS\NT4\(Language).

The PostScript Level 2 Compatible printer driver for Windows 2000 or Windows XP is located in \DRIVERS\PS\WIN2K_XP\(Language).

The Postscript printer description (PPD) for Macintosh OS 8/9 is located in \Mac OS 8 and 9\Printer Descriptions\(Language).

The Postscript printer description (PPD) for Macintosh OS X with installer is located in \Mac OS X\MacOSX PPD Installer.

(I) Introduction
====================================

This document contains the most up-to-date information available as of the software's release. See the Application Notes section for details of known limitations. For information on printer driver settings and features, check the Help file and the Operating Instructions. 


(II) Installation
=================
The installation and removal procedures are shown below. If a previous version of the driver has already been installed on your computer, you must remove the previous version before installing this driver. 

i) Installing the printer driver in Windows 95/98/Me
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Insert the "Printer Drivers and Utilities" CD.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the "Printers" folder by clicking on the "Start" menu, then selecting "Settings" and "Printers". 

4. Double click on the "Add Printer" icon and follow the instructions.  When asked for the installation disk, 
   a) Click "Have Disk".
   b) Click "Browse".
   c) Select the CDROM.
   d) Select the "DRIVERS" directory.
   e) Select the "PS" directory.
   f) Select the "WIN9X_ME" directory.
   g) Select the appropriate language.
   h) "OEMSETUP.INF" is displayed.   
   i) Click "OK". 
   j) Click "OK".

5. Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install by clicking it, and then click [Next]. Continue with the instructions.

6. Restart Windows after installation.

ii) Installing the printer driver in Windows NT4.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Insert the "Printer Drivers and Utilities" CD.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the "Printers" folder by clicking on the "Start" menu, then selecting "Settings" and "Printers".

4. Double click on the "Add Printer" icon and follow the instructions.  When asked for the installation disk, 
   a) Click "Have Disk".
   b) Click "Browse".
   c) Select the CDROM.
   d) Select the "DRIVERS" directory.
   e) Select the "PS" directory.
   f) Select the "NT4" directory.
   g) Select the appropriate language.
   h) "OEMSETUP.INF" is displayed.   
   i) Click "Open". 
   j) Click "OK".
   
5. Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install by clicking it, and then click [Next]. Continue with the instructions.

6. Restart Windows after installation.

iii) Installing the printer driver in Windows 2000
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Insert the "Printer Drivers and Utilities" CD.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the "Printers" folder by clicking on the "Start" menu, then selecting "Settings" and "Printers".

4. Double click on the "Add Printer" icon and follow the instructions. When asked for the installation disk, 

   a) Click "Have Disk".
   b) Click "Browse".
   c) Select your CD drive.
   d) Select the "DRIVERS" directory.
   e) Select the "PS" directory.
   f) Select the "WIN2K_XP" directory.
   g) Select the appropriate language.
   h) "OEMSETUP.INF" is displayed.   
   i) Click "OPEN". 
   j) Click "OK". 

5. Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install by clicking it, and then click [Next]. Continue with the instructions.

[Note] During Installation, the [Digital Signature Not Found] dialog box may be displayed. If this happens, just click [Yes] to continue the installation.

6. Restart Windows after installation.

iv) Installing the printer driver in Windows XP
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Insert the "Printer Drivers and Utilities" CD.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the "Printers and Faxes" folder by clicking on the "Start" menu.

4. Click the "Add a Printer" and follow the instructions. When "Install Printer Software" is displayed, 

   a) Click "Have Disk".
   b) Click "Browse".
   c) Select your CD drive.
   d) Select the "DRIVERS" directory.
   e) Select the "PS" directory.
   f) Select the "WIN2K_XP" directory.
   g) Select the appropriate language.
   h) "OEMSETUP.INF" is displayed.   
   i) Click "OPEN". 
   j) Click "OK". 

[Note] To install the printer driver in Windows XP, use same files as those of Windows2000.

5. Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install by clicking it, and then click [Next]. Continue with the instructions.

[Note]
During installation, the [Hardware Installation] dialog box may appear. 
In this case, click [Continue Anyway] to continue the installation.

6. Restart Windows after installation.

v) Uninstalling the printer driver from Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000 or Windows XP. 
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close all applications.

2. Open the "Printers" folder by clicking on the "Start" menu, then selecting "Settings" and "Printers".

3. Select the printer you wish to uninstall.

4. Press the "Delete" key.

5. Restart Windows.

vi) Installing the printer driver in Macintosh OS 8/9
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Double-click the icon of your Macintosh hard disk to open it.

2. Open the [System Folder] and [Extensions] folders. 

3. Insert the "Printer Drivers and Utilities" CD. The CD-ROM icon should appear. 

4. Double-click the CD-ROM icon to display its contents.

5. Double-click the [Printer Descriptions] folder, and then open the folder for the desired language.

6. Drag and drop your printer's PPD file into the [Printer Descriptions] folder inside the [Extensions] folder. The PPD file is now installed.

7. Drag and drop the CD-ROM icon into the [Trash] to eject it.

8. On the Apple menu, select [Chooser].

9. Click the [LaserWriter8] icon.

10. In the [Select a PostScript Printer] list, select the name of the printer you want to add.

11. Click [Create].

12. Select the printer you want to use by clicking it, and then click [Select].

vii) Installing the printer driver in Macintosh OS X
------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

2. Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

3. Double-click the [Mac OS X] folder.

4. Double-click the [PPD Installer] folder, and then double-click the installer icon.

5. Follow the instructions on screen.


(III) Application notes and tips
===============================
1. In some applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PhotoShop, Macromedia Freehand and Adobe Acrobat, the Layout or Watermark commands may not work.

2. In some applications such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, 'Different paper for first page' may not work. All pages are printed from the same tray.

3. If the 'Send True Type fonts to printer according to the font Substitution Table' is set in Font Tab, fonts may not print correctly. Change to 'Always use True Type fonts' in Font Tab.  

4. Even if 'Sub Paper Size' is set to 'On' on User Tools/Printer Features/Job Control/System/Sub Paper Size/ of the printer panel, this feature is canceled when 'Bypass Tray' or 'Use Slip Sheet' function is used.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
