Overview

This is an updated Windows Me driver for the integrated modem installed on the Brookings motherboard.

Note: This driver does not fit on a single floppy disk.  If you need to move it to another computer, it may be necessary to burn it to a CD or Zip drive.  It is also possible to copy the driver files to multiple floppy disks from the C:\cabs\7509609 folder.


Identification

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  If you do not see this icon, click View All Control Panel options, and then double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  On the Device Manager tab, double-click Modem.  If 56K AC-LINK Voice Modem is listed, this is the correct driver.


Installation

Download the file to the desktop, and then follow these steps: 

1.  On your screen, double-click the 7509609.exe file. 

2.  In the Win-Zip Self Extractor window, click Unzip to expand the files to the C:\cabs\7509609 folder.  When complete, click OK. 

3.  Close all open programs.

4.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

5.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  If you do not see this icon, click View All Control Panel options, and then double-click the System icon.

6.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

7.  On the Device Manager tab, double-click Modem, and then double-click the listed modem device.

8.  In the Modem Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

9.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Specify the location of the driver.

10.  Click Display a list of the driver in a specific location so you can select the driver you want, and then click Next.

11.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

12.  In the Install from disk dialog box, type: C:\cabs\7509609.  Click OK.
 
13.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

14.  In the next dialog box, click Next.

15.  If an Update Driver warning appears, click OK.

16.  Files copy.  When complete, click Finish.

17.  Close all windows.

18.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the What would you like the computer to do list, click Restart, and then click OK.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 

3.  In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, in the list of installed programs, select 56K AC-LINK Voice Modem (Uninstall), and then click Add/Remove. 

4.  The removal performs without any other user input and 56K AC-LINK Voice Modem (Uninstall) is removed from the list, signifying that the removal is finished.
  
5.  If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties installing the new driver, download it again, and then follow the installation procedure in this document.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
