1. INSTALLATION NOTES
================================================================
1.1 Using ADVISOR
----------------------------------------------------------------
Run ADVISOR before the installation program to save the SoundMan
Games settings in SOUNDMAN.INI in the root directory. Do not
remove this file, INSTALL uses it.
ADVISOR suggests default settings but may not be able to detect
conflicts. You should know what you have installed in your
machine.
1.2 Hard Disk Space
----------------------------------------------------------------
Installation and use of the software included in this package
requires a hard disk with at least 2 MB of free disk space.
1.3 Decompressing Windows Files Manually
----------------------------------------------------------------
The files on the installation disk which end with "%" have been
compressed. The installation program automatically decompresses
these files during installation. However, if necessary, you can
decompress a file manually using LGEXPAND.EXE provided on the
installation disk. Type LGEXPAND for syntax.
1.4 Installing the SONY CDU-31A Drive, MANUAL ERRATUM
----------------------------------------------------------------
MANUAL ERRATUM page 42:
Use SETUP to install the SONY drivers (not INSTALL). The default
directory will not be SOUNDMAN, but you may install your drivers
there if you wish.
1.5 ScanMan DMA Conflict
----------------------------------------------------------------
The installation program should warn you of a conflict with
the ScanMan DMA if it finds one. Because of the Sound Blaster
default, many games may require DMA 1 for sound. For this reason
we recommend re-configuring your ScanMan to DMA 3. Please refer
to the ScanMan User's Guide for details on how to change the
ScanMan DMA.
1.6 Windows MIDI Mapper
----------------------------------------------------------------
During installation SoundMan Games replaces your Windows MIDI
Mapper configuration. The file MIDIMAP.CFG in your Windows
SYSTEM directory contains your settings. A backup of your
previous settings is saved in the same directory as MIDIMAP.LGI
during installation.
1.7 Windows Drivers
----------------------------------------------------------------
The SoundMan Games installation will replace your current Wave
or Midi driver. To keep more than one driver edit your
SYSTEM.INI [drivers] section as follows (e.g., for Wave):
Wave=SMGWAV.drv
Wave1=<previous>.drv
Wave2=<other>.drv
Etc.
Your previous configuration is saved in SYSTEM.LGI if you need
to cross-check.
1.8 Re-Booting Your System From Installer
----------------------------------------------------------------
When finished installing, select "Re-Boot" before ejecting the
diskette. Then eject the diskette so that your system will not
boot from it.
1.9 Configuring IRQ 10 for Windows
----------------------------------------------------------------
SoundBlaster IRQ 10 is available for Windows. To configure
Windows, edit SYSTEM.INI in the Windows directory. Under the
[smgwav.drv] section set the "int" entry to 10 as follows:
int=10
Make sure the SoundBlaster IRQ jumper on the board is on 10.
Restart Windows.
2. TECHNICAL NOTES
================================================================
2.1 Recording with SoundMan Games
----------------------------------------------------------------
For best recording results we strongly advise using LINE-IN with
a source device which has an output volume control. This allows
optimization of the recording levels. Not optimizing levels
may yield grizzled recordings.
2.2 MCS MusicRack Product Support, MANUAL ERRATUM
----------------------------------------------------------------
MANUAL ERRATUM page 57:
Call Logitech product support for MCS MusicRack problems and
questions.
3. GAME NOTES
================================================================
3.1 Tell the Game You Have a Sound Blaster
----------------------------------------------------------------
If a game fails to detect your sound board automatically try
forcing the game to look for a Sound Blaster. Typically a
parameter such as "/S:SBLASTER" will do this. Check your
documentation for details.
After an unsuccessful attempt to find SoundMan Games it may be
necessary to reboot your computer to reset the board before
retrying.
3.2 Not Enough Memory To Run Games
----------------------------------------------------------------
You can make more space for memory-hungry games by loading
drivers HIGH in DOS 5.0 or 6.0. We therefore suggest to upgrade
to DOS 5.0 or 6.0 to optimize the use of the memory on your
computer.
To do so change the CONFIG.SYS file and replace the "DEVICE="
lines by "DEVICEHIGH=". For more details see the instructions in
the DOS 5.0 User's Manual about "Optimizing Your System -
Running Programs in the Upper Memory Area".
3.3 Volume Control Hot Keys in Games
----------------------------------------------------------------
If a game uses the same hot keys as you have defined for your
volume hot keys, the latter may not work. Refer to the manual
pages 5 and 50 for information on changing your settings.
Note:
The numeric keypad volume hot keys will not work in
D/Generation. Use the standard set.
4. SYSTEM HARDWARE NOTES
================================================================
4.1 Computing Power Required
----------------------------------------------------------------
It may be difficult for a computer to support a very high
throughput of audio data, while recording or playing:
- at a high sampling rate (e.g. 44 kHz)
- in stereo (requires twice as much data)
If the sound quality does not improve when you increase the
sampling rate, this may be because the computer cannot sustain
the higher throughput required. The computer may need more
memory (RAM), higher CPU speed, quicker disk speed, or other
improvements.

5.2 Directories and Files Created During Installation
----------------------------------------------------------------
The installation program suggests new directories as follows:
C:\SOUNDMAN DOS driver and software
C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN Windows software
You may put all files in the same directory if you wish.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
