Installation Instructions for
Micro Firmware BIOS Upgrade Updates

NOTE: Use of these files is governed by the License Agreement
contained in the file LICENSE.TXT, included with this
distribution.
This BIOS Update file will update prior revisions of Micro Firmware's
I5HS10 BIOS Upgrade to I5HS10 version 4.05.05.
In order to install this update, the I5HS10 BIOS must
already be resident on your PC. You can confirm this by booting your PC
and watching for the Micro Firmware BIOS part number which will appear
on the boot screen. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF
YOU DO NOT SEE THE "I5HS10" PART NUMBER ON THE BOOT SCREEN.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
===================
Run Setup, and make a note of your existing configuration. Pay
particular attention to hard drive settings and the settings for
the onboard serial and parallel ports. Most settings are retained,
but checking your existing configuration is a good precaution in the
unlikely event that the Flash installation is interrupted for any
reason.
Be sure that your data is backed up. This is a normal, everyday rule
of thumb that everyone should adhere to. Installing the new BIOS revision
in and of itself will not affect the data on your hard drive(s) - however,
it is especially important to have a back up of any valuable data any
time you make any changes to your PC configuration.
You will need to have two blank or spare diskettes that will work in your A:
(first) floppy drive. One diskette will be used to make a bootable floppy
disk, the other diskette will be used to make a "recovery" disk containing
the existing BIOS revision. The recovery disk must be the appropriate
high-density type for the A: drive. It may be wither a 5.25-inch or a
3.5-inch disk. Most systems are configured with a 3.5-inch drive as the
A: drive.
Make a bootable floppy disk by insterting a new diskette in your A: drive,
and entering the command:
FORMAT A: /S
(Windows 95 users should first bring up an MS-DOS window by selecting START,
then PROGRAMS, then MS-DOS PROMPT.)
Once the disk is formatted, copy the files from this distribution
to the newly-created boot disk. You are now ready to install the BIOS
update.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=========================
1. Insert the Micro Firmware/PhoenixBIOS Installation Diskette in the A:
or B: drive. Your default drive should already be the A: drive,
assuming you just booted from the A: drive as described above.
If the installation disk is in the B: drive, switch to the B: drive by
typing B: [ENTER].
2. Type INSTALL [ENTER] to run the Flash BIOS installation program.
3. The first thing the Installation program will do is examine your system
to determine the current system settings. This allows the installation
program to preserve many system setup options under the new BIOS.
This will take a few moments.
4. Then the installation program will load the BIOS image from disk into
RAM. A window will appear showing the progress. This should take just
a few seconds.
5. Next, the installation program will prompt you to enter a blank or unused
high-density diskette in the A: drive to create the recovery disk. The
disk will need to be formatted, and any data on the disk will be
overwritten.
NOTE: Be sure to keep the original recovery disk that was made when
you first upgraded from the original manufacturer's BIOS. Use
a new diskette when making the recovery disk for this
installation. Do not reuse or otherwise write-over your
original recovery disk.
6. Press [ENTER] once the blank diskette for the recovery disk has been
installed. The original BIOS image will then be written to the diskette.
During this process, the disk tracks are reformatted and double verified.
If the Installation program detects any errors, it will prompt you to
start over with a new diskette.
7. Once completed, the Installation program will prompt you to remove the
recovery disk. Label the recovery disk, then store it in a safe place.

8. When you press a key to continue, the Flash ROM will be reprogrammed
with the new BIOS. Once the programming is complete, the system will
reboot with your new BIOS installed.
9. You may want to run Setup and confirm your settings. You may also want
to autoconfigure your hard drives again so that settings such as LBA mode
and multi-sector transfers will be reset to their proper settings. Refer
to the system-specific supplementalmanual for more details.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
