If you have previously installed a Smartlink ESS modem, please follow these steps to replace your existing driver:

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Choose Modem
3. Choose Remove 'ESS ES56T-PI Voice Data Fax Modem', then press OK
4. In Control Panel, choose System.
5. Choose Device Manager
6. Expand and double click 'ESS WDM MODEM ENUMERATOR'
7. Click Driver, Update Driver
8. Choose Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), Next
9. Choose Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want, click Next
10. Click 'Have Disk', 'Browse', enter the path to where you unzipped the files (i.e. C:\Temp)
11. Choose MDMESSP.INF, click OK
12. It should display model: ESS Modem Device Manager (1-11-1999), click Next
13. An Update Driver Warning will appear, click YES
14. Display location of the driver (i.e. C:\Temp), click Next, then Finish
15. Reboot your system, and it should work fine.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
