History

I saw Plextor has released its firmware 1.12 for its Ultraplex PX-40TSi.
Since I owned a Plextor made HP PX-40TSi, which is indeed exactly the same as
Plextor Ultraplex PX-40TSi, I am also interested in flashing my PX-40TSi from
firmware 1.11 to firmware 1.12.

I downloaded the 1.12 firmware from Plextor web site and tried to flash mine.
However, it did not work on HP PX-40TSi. Then, I searched all HP website,
hoping that I could find the firmware. But it was not there.
I contacted Plextor tech support, hoping that they could "spare" me with
the latest 1.12, but they refuse to help me, since it's not their duty to support
an OEM products although Plextor made it.

In my confusion, I decided to take a peek at Plextor flashing program.
First I extract the files using Winzip, inside I saw two files,
one is the flashing program and the other is the firmware image.
I decided to disamble the flashing program first, since I was sure that
this was where the CDROM checking start.
I used Advanced Xex Editor version 2.1 and start to hack the program.
And I did it.

How to flash

Under Windows (I am using Windows Me), extract the two files and double click
plfirm32.exe, wait until it's completed and restart your computer.
