                           WHICH EDITION DO I HAVE?
                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Virtual Tablet Interface is available in a number of different editions
including: various OEM Editions, a Limited Edition and a Professional Edition.
Each Edition runs on all Windows platforms, includes automated setup, multi-
tasking and application support; but vary in their features and functionality.
The OEM Editions are available only from original equipment manufacturers,
support only their digitizers and offer a minimum set of features and
functionality. The Limited Edition is available to value-added resellers only
and offers a fuller set of features but without any template or advanced
pointing-device support. Finally, the Professional Edition is available to all
customers and offers the complete, feature-rich functionality of the product
including template support
If you are unsure which edition you have, it will be located in the lower-left
corner of the Tablet Manager's dialog box which is accessible from the Win32
task bar or Win16 program group. The "Limited Edition" and "Professional
Edition" will be identified as such, and OEM Editions will be identified by the
OEM's name and the word "Edition."
Versions of the Virtual Tablet Interface prior to Version 5 are all
Professional Editions. Version 5 offers many enhancements and new features for
current users of the Virtual Tablet Interface. For details, please see "What's
New in Version 5" in Getting Started.
                     UPGRADING TO THE PROFESSIONAL EDITION
                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you own the OEM or Limited Edition of the Virtual Tablet Interface, you may
upgrade to the Professional Edition (see "Which Edition Do I Have?" to
determine your edition). If you choose to upgrade from the OEM or Limited
Edition to the Professional Edition, here is a sample of some of the increased
functionality that becomes available to you:
* You will be able to specify an area on the Windows desktop within which the
  display cursor will be cropped or restrained from leaving;
* You will be able to automatically generate button events based on the
  distance the digitizer puck is moved, e.g. dropping nodes in a CAD or
  mapping application;
* You will be able to assign audible tones that sound when a button is pressed
  enabling you to do more efficient "heads-down" digitizing in applications;
* You will be able to change the orientation of the display cursor on the
  Windows desktop to better match the orientation of your digitizer;
* You will be able to automatically hide the Windows display cursor while you
  are typing and have it appear automatically when you next make a selection;
* You will be able to temporarily disable the digitizer while using another
  pointing device that alleviates the condition of "dueling-cursors";
* You will be able to set and interval for proximity detection for digitizers
  that do not support hardware detection of out-of-proximity conditions;
* You will be able to use your digitizer as a mouse in a full-screen DOS
  session;
* You will be able to take advantage of using multiple-monitors under Windows
  9X and Windows 2000.
* You will be able to assign keyboard macros to each digitizer button
  significantly enhancing your productivity with virtually any Windows
  application;
* You will be able to execute digitizer template menus (and any associated DDE
  server) for any Windows application;
* You will be able to assign pressure values to any digitizer button that is
  quite helpful when using drawing programs without a pressure stylus;
* You will be able to set, and optionally lock, pressure values from a
  pressure-sensitive stylus when used in an application that supports
  digitizer pressure;
* You will be able to smooth pressure readings from a pressure-sensitive
  stylus that can make drawing lines in applications much easier;
* You will be able to set the pressure value above which a pressure-sensitive
  stylus will output a left-mouse click;
* You will be able to output extra buttons (e.g. buttons 3-16) from a stylus
  or cursor by using a key in conjunction with a digitizer button;
* You will be able to change the linear speed of the digitizer on the Windows
  display when using the digitizer in mouse (relative) mode;
* You will be able to change the non-linear speed of the digitizer on the
  Windows display when using the digitizer in mouse (relative) mode;
* You will be able to wrap the display cursor on the Windows desktop from top
  to bottom and/or left to right when using the digitizer in mouse (relative)
  mode;
* You will be able to change the digitizer type used by the software on the
  fly without reinstalling the product or rebooting Windows;
* You will be able to control whether the digitizer is reset at startup or
  when switching between tasks;
* You will be able to determine how fast the digitizer sends data to the
  computer that can enhance performance and certain features;
* You will be able to create digitizer template menus from scratch or using an
  automated template wizard (the complete Template Editor program); and
* You will be able to view and search the complete online documentation in
  Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From time to time, Digitizer Technology posts full working versions of the
domain or shareware" which are sold for profit. National services such as
CompuServe, GEnie, CONNECT, America Online; BBSs which charge a fee for
                       GETTING HELP AND PRODUCT SUPPORT
                       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Digitizer Technology and our partners are committed to supporting the Virtual
Tablet Interface. Technical support options and points of contact may be found
AFTER installing the product by selecting "Getting Started Manual" or "Getting
Started Help" from Start\ Programs\ Virtual Tablet under Windows 9X and NT, or
by clicking the equivalent icon from the Program Manager group under Windows
3.1. Technical support options and points of contact may be found BEFORE
installing the product by clicking on the Setup32.Hlp file (Windows 9X and NT)
or Setup.Hlp (Windows 3.1) located on your diskette or within the downloaded
WinZip executable.

By contract, Digitizer Technology does not provide support for OEM Editions of
the Virtual Tablet Interface. Please contact the original equipment
manufacturer of your digitizer for Virtual Tablet Interface technical support.

                           RUNNING THE SETUP PROGRAM
                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To run Setup, first make sure your computer and monitor are turned on and that
Microsoft Windows is installed and running. Then, perform the following steps:
[Windows 9X and NT]
1.In the Task Bar, choose Run from the Start button.
2.In the Command Line box type A:\INSTALL.EXE or an alternate location of the
  Setup program.
3.Click the OK button or press Enter.
[Windows 3.1]
1.In the Program Manager window, choose Run from the File Menu.
2.In the Command Line box type A:\INSTALL.EXE or an alternate location of the
  Setup program.
3.Click the OK button or press Enter.
IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THE VIRTUAL TABLET INTERFACE OVER OTHER DIGITIZER
SOFTWARE, MAKE SURE THAT SOFTWARE IS REMOVED BEFORE RUNNING SETUP. CONTACT THE
DIGITIZER MANUFACTURER FOR HELP, IF NECESSARY.
Note: The files on the Virtual Tablet Interface installation disks are
compressed and are not usable until expanded. The Setup program expands the
compressed files as it copies them onto your hard disk. The Windows expand
utility and other public domain compression programs will not work with the
installation files since they contain proprietary codes. Compressed files are
identified with an extension containing a dollar sign ("$"). IF YOU ARE USING A
DEMONSTRATION COPY OF THE PRODUCT, MAKE SURE YOU RETAIN A COPY OF THE SETUP
FILES IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE PRODUCT AT THE END OF THE EVALUATION PERIOD.
