THE VIRTUAL TABLET INTERFACE
DIGITIZER TECHNOLOGY

This document enumerates supported configurations for each digitizer. If your
tablet is not listed below, choose one that matches the active area and report
format of your digitizer. If you received an OEM Edition of the Virtual Tablet
Interface, only the tablets licensed by the OEM will be available from the list
below. For information on upgrading to the Professional Edition, please see the
Readme.Txt file or select General Overview from your Virtual Tablet program
group.

Some digitizers may require setting dipswitches or soft menus for proper
operation. If in doubt about how to configure a particular digitizer, the
following rules of thumb are generally true for all digitizers supported by the
Virtual Tablet Interface:
Output Format: High resolution binary (ASCII not supported)
Origin: Lower-left
Resolution: Highest supported, typically 1000 lines per inch
Report Rate: Slow = 32, Medium = 64 and Fast = 96 at 9600 baud
Mode: Stream, continuous or run
Proximity: Send out-of-proximity reports
Baud: 9600 (except SummaPad, CadPro, Design and Creation
Stations)
Refer to the manual that came with your tablet and configure per the
specification(s) and notes at the end of the chapter. Make sure your
configuration is the one active each time the digitizer is reset or powered-up
and the digitizer is turned on before starting Windows.

On). Type: 2nd DEC 3.
(15) Default settings: Type 2nd DRVR 3; type 2nd PARAM 00 11 ENT; type 2nd DEC 3
(keypad entry). These settings will remain active until changed.
(16) Must be configured once with original DOS driver setup program. Choose
custom mode, 1000 lines per inch, 8,1,None and binary output format. Do not use
Hitachi Default mode.
(17) When using these units with a stylus or four-button cursor, digitizer
button four is mapped to button eleven. To correct this, use the Tablet
Manager's Button Tab to Mask button eleven to button four for both the Up and
Down events (you may wish to Lock button Masking afterwards). For the Microgrid
II, the required dipswitches are: DS1 (1-On, 2-Off, 3-Off, 4-On, 5-On, 6-Off, 7-
Off, and 8-Off) and DS2 (1-Off 2-On, 3-Off, 4-On, 5-On, 6-On, 7-On and 8-On).
For the Microgrid III and IV, the required dip-switches are: DS1 (1-On, 2-Off, 3-
Off, 4-On, 5-On, 6-On, 7-Off, and 8-Off), DS2 (1-On, 2-Off, 3-Off, 4-Off, 5-Off,
6-On, 7-Off and 8-Off), and DS3 (1-On, 2-On, 3-Off, 4-On, 5-Off, 6-Off, 7-Off
and 8-Off); if using a 16-button cursor, change DS3-7 to On or the unit may not
work correctly (Microgrid III and IV only).
(18) Required US dipswitch settings are: Baud (1-Up, 2-Dn, 3-Dn, 4-Dn) and
Program (all down). For LTD models, the settings are: Baud (1-Up, 2-Dn, 3-
Dn, 4-Up) and Program (1-Dn, 2-Dn, 3-Dn, 4-Up, 5-Dn, 6-Dn, 7-Dn, 8-Dn).
(19) These units should be configured via soft-switch to Recall #3 (Numonics
binary #24) and may be used with four or sixteen button cursors; select
configuration for proper operation.
(20) The active area on these units includes the top menu strip which itself is
not supported.
(21) Required dipswitch settings are: (1,8-Up, all others down).
(22) Default button mappings are buttons 8 and 1 and buttons 9 and 2 reversed.
(23) To configure this device from the logo strip, digitize the logo strip areas
in the following order: Alt, F3, F2, F5, P1; Alt, F6; P1. Note that the
pressure pen cannot be used with a corded puck plugged into the device at
the same time.
(24) When using these units with a stylus or four-button cursor, digitizer
button four is mapped to button eleven. To correct this, use the Tablet
Manager's Button Tab to Mask button eleven to button four for both the Up
and Down events (you may wish to Lock button Masking afterwards). For the
Summagrid III and IV, the required dipswitches are: DIP-A (1-On, 2-Off, 3-
Off, 4-On, 5-On, 6-On, 7-On and 8-Off); DIP-B (1-On, 2-Off, 3-Off, 4-Off, 5-
Off, 6-On, 7-Off and 8-Off); and DIP-C (1-On, 2-On, 3-Off, 4-On, 5-Off, and
6,7,8-No Change).

Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
