If you need to install or upgrade your drivers, please follow the below instructions. The drivers in this release are only meant for MS Windows 2000 and is not to be used on other OS. Please do not attempt to remove the driver as you will void the warranty and may cause permanent damage to your computer system and modem. Drivers for your modem have been installed on the system from the factory. If for some reason you need to reinstall your modem or update the drivers, please follow the instructions as outlined in this document. - LOCATION OF DRIVERS =================== \MODEM - Modem Drivers( For Windows2000 Installation) - WINDOWS 2000 INSTALLATION NOTE Drivers Files ------------- 3CWMUNST.EXE Uninstaller Executable WDPHCAA.SY_ Modem Driver WDPHCAA.INF Installation Information File WDPHCAA.CAT Microsoft Digital Signature File WINDOWS 2000 INSTALLATION 1 --------------------------- 1. Your system may have come preinstalled with the modem and device drivers. If you need to install your modem drivers, follow step 2 below. If you need to upgrade your device, please follow the instructions for WINDOWS 2000 DRIVER UPGRADE. 2. Run "Setup.exe" from the modem directory. This will install the modem driver for you. WINDOWS 2000 UNINSTALL ---------------------- 1. It is recommended that instead of uninstalling the device you use the Windows 2000 driver upgrade wizard as outlined below. 2. If for some reason you really need to uninstall the modem you can do so from Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Select the "Compaq MiniPCI 56K (V.90) Modem by 3COM" and select Add/Remove. Please note that after uninstalling, you will need to reboot the system before you can reinstall a new modem driver. WINDOWS 2000 DRIVER UPGRADE --------------------------- 1. Go to the System Properties page by clicking on StartMenu->Settings-> Control Panel->System. A shortcut to this same page is availabe by right- clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. 2. Select the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button. 3. Right Click on the Compaq Global MiniPCI modem under the modem icon and then click on properties. 4. Select the Driver tab and click on the Update Driver button. 5. Follow the Update Device Driver Wizard. WINDOWS 2000 COUNTRY SELECTION ------------------------------ 1. Go to the Phone and Modem Options page by selecting StartMenu->Settings-> ControlPanel->Phone and Modem Options. 2. Under the Dialing Rules tab select the appropriate location or if you need to add a location then select NEW and fill out the appropriate sections. 3. Once you have selected the location, select Apply and then OK. 4. Using your favorite communications software in Terminal mode, type ATH1 and hit enter then wait 2 seconds, type ATH and hit enter again. If you are using Dial-Up Networking then start a session and then select CANCEL after it has dialed. Note: This procedure will need to be followed each time you change the country selection. In a communications application Terminal mode you can issue the command ATI7 and hit enter. Under Product Type you will see the current setting of the modem. COUNTRY SELECTION NOTES ======================== Changes on Country Selection Settings ------------------------------------- The Worldport application that comes with PC98 driver is not supported now with this current modem driver. Do not use the Worldport application to set the country selection for this version of the modem. Run "setup.exe" from the LAN directory. This will install the LAN driver for you. Manually Adding(or ) an Adapter in Windows 2000 ------------------------------------------ If the New Hardware Found dialog box does not appear at startup and you cannot connect to the network, check the Device Manager list to see if the new adapter is present. If it is not, follow these steps: 1. From the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. 2. Select the "Hardware" Tab and click the Device Manager tab. 3. Double-click Other Devices or Network Adapters in the list area. Check whether the correct driver is installed. 4. If the driver installed is not correct, double-click the device name. 5. Click the Driver tab, then click Update Driver. 6. Click Next at the Update Device Driver Wizard. 7. On the Install Hardware Device Drivers, check on "Display a list of drivers so that I can choose a specific driver. 8. Click "Have Disk" button. Browse to the location where your drivers are stored. Select "Compaq 10/100 MiniPCI Ethernet by 3COM". Click Next. 9. The Update Wizard displays the message that it has found the driver D:\NET556N5.INF (where D: is your media drive). Click Next. 10. Click Finish. 11. Restart your computer when prompted. Enable Wake-On-Lan in Windows 2000 --------------------------------- You may set the Wake-On-Lan to be on by going to Device Manager and double click the device "Compaq 10/100 MiniPCI Ethernet Adapter by 3COM." Select the "Power Management" Tab. Ensure both boxes display on the window are checked. They are: o "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" o "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" Uninstalling LAN driver ----------------------- It is recommended that instead of uninstalling the device you use the Windows 2000 driver upgrade wizard as outlined below. WINDOWS 2000 DRIVER UPGRADE --------------------------- 1. Go to the System Properties page by clicking on StartMenu->Settings-> Control Panel->System. A shortcut to this same page is availabe by right- clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. 2. Select the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button. 3. Right Click on the Compaq MiniPCI 10/100 LAN 56K(V.90) Modem by 3Com under the network icon and then click on properties. 4. Select the Driver tab and click on the Update Driver button. 5. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
