Important Note ================================================================= Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation BEFORE you continue the installation. 2. Installation Notes ================================================================= These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support DirectDraw & Direct3D applications. Included in this driver archive is a '32Bit' folder. If you are using a Diamond Speedstar A90 or a Savage 4 Pro+ from Micron, select this sub-directory (C:\Savage4\32Bit) for the driver directory instead of the default (C:\Savage4). Preparing to install the Windows 9x/ME Drivers ----------------------------------------------------------------- Before installing the S3 Inc. Savage 4 Windows 9x display drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA". 1. Open your Control Panel and select Display. 2. Select the Settings tab and click Advanced button. 3. Select the Adapter tab and click the Change button. 4. Select the option 'Display a list of all drivers...' and click the Next button. 5. Select the Show All Hardware radio button and scroll to the top of the left window and select Standard Display Types. 6. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). Click OK. 3. Installation Instructions ================================================================= Manual Installation via .inf for Windows 9x/ME: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Start the "Display" applet program. Select the "Settings" tab, push the "Advanced" button. Push the "Change" button on the "Adapter" tab. Select the option 'Display a list of all drivers...' and click the Next button. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK". Specify the path to the new driver and press the <ENTER> key: Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive, and enter A:\. Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied the drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network share. This installation automatically goes to C:\Savage4 unless you have manually changed the default extraction. Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are, choose the "Browse..." button are find them. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK. Windows 9x/ME will copy the display drivers to the proper directories on your system. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display applet and select alternate screen resolutions and color depths. 4. Known Issues ================================================================= There are no issues to note with this release. 5. Issues Resolved ================================================================= Resolves compatibility issues with Intel i815 chipset based motherboards. 6. Known Limitations ================================================================= This driver is not optimized for DirectX7. It is optimized for DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runs on operating systems with either DirectX version installed. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
