How to hand install the driver:

NT 4.0:
Warning: Missing a step can cause unrecoverable system failure.

1. Copy AMDEIDE.SYS driver to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
2. Copy appropriate AMDEIDE.INF to C:\WINNT\INF
3. Shut down any other programs that may be running.
4. From the "Start" menu select Settings->Control Panel
5. From the Control Panel, select SCSI Adapters by double clicking on the icon.
6. Select the "Drivers" tab.
7. Click on the driver named "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/Dual-channel PCI.."
8. Click on the Remove button.  Confirm removal by clicking on the Yes button.
9. Click on the Add button.
10. Click on the Have Disk button.
11. When prompted, use Browse to locate the directory from step #1.
12. Select the driver named "AMD Bus Master IDE Controller" and press OK.
13. Restart your computer.


Win 95/98:

1. Copy AMDEIDE.MPD to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS
2. Copy appropriate AMDHDC.INF to C:\WINDOWS\INF
3. From the "Start" menu, select Run, and type Regedit
4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/PCI
5. Remove any keys that contain Vendor 1022 and Devices 7401 or 7409.  These will look like (VEN_1022&DEV_7409&SUBSYS...) in 98 and (VEN_1022&DEV_7409) in 95.
6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/MF
7. Remove Child0000 and Child0001

ONLY IF Win98 (Golden or Second Edition)
8. Copy AMDIDEPM.VXD to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS
9. Copy AMDEIDE.CAT to C:\WINDOWS\INF (You will be prompted by a dialog box later for this path)

ONLY IF Win98 Second Edition:
10. Go to directory C:\WINDOWS\INF and make a backup of the MSHDC.INF file.
11. Edit the MSHDC.INF file and remove the following lines.

[AMD_HDC]
%PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7409.DeviceDesc%=DUAL_GOOD_IDE, PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7409
AMD="AMD"
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7409.DeviceDesc="AMD 756 PCI Bus Master Dual IDE Controller"

ONLY FOR Win95
8. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion
9. Change the value of "Setup" to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS

For all systems:
Restart Machine to load driver

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
