Setting up the Driver --------------------- To install the driver perform the following steps: Windows 2000/XP First Time Installation --------------------------------------- - Select Browse and select the folder with the downloaded file GNA2KXP.EXE. - Proceed through the installer and select the Genicom printer you wish to use. If you wish to install another copy of the driver, simply proceed through the installation and a 'Copy' will be installed e.g. Genicom 4810 Copy 1. - By default the driver will install onto the parallel port LPT1. If you wish to change this, select Start->Settings->Printers under 2000 or Start->Printers and Faxes under XP, followed by File, Properties. The setting is changed under the 'Port' Tab. - For Network installations, proceed through the installer installing to LPT1 and then launch the Printer Wizard by selecting Start->Settings->Printers->Add Printer under 2000 or Start->Printers and Faxes->Add Printer under XP, and proceed to the 'Have Disk' option. The path of the files should be %SystemDir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86. A list of support Genicom models will be shown allowing for a network path to be issued on installation. - Custom Paper Sizes can be defined by creating 'Forms'. To do this, select Start->Settings->Printers under 2000 or Start->Printers and Faxes under XP, File and Server Properties. Define the Form/paper size and the new form will be selectable from within your applications. - To define default driver settings that will be used by your applications, use select Start->Settings->Printers under 2000 or Start->Printers and Faxes under XP, and select Printing Preferences. Removal/upgrading of the Driver --------------------- It is essential that the following steps are followed when upgrading the driver. - select Start, Settings, Printers and delete any previously installed Genicom ANSI drivers, - Select Start->Control Panel and select Fonts, - Delete the Font BarDisplay Fonts, - Perform a RESTART and Boot into Windows 2000 or XP, - Now follow the above First time Installation steps above. NOTE: For your information the following files are installed in the %SystemDir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 directory. - GNCMNTU.DLL - GENMSGE.DLL - GNCMUUI.DLL - GENBMPS.DLL - DLSBAR32.DLL If any problems are found please notify your nearest Genicom dealer, in order to rectify any problems should they exist. APPLICATION NOTES: ------------------ WORD 97 and above: When using resident fonts or barcodes with Word 97 or above please ENSURE that you set the 'Use Printer Metrics to Layout Document' setting found within Word under Tools->Options->Compatibility. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
