SMART LABEL(TM) VERSION 4.56
INSTALLATION AND USAGE UPDATE

PLEASE VISIT http://www.seikosmart.com FOR THE LATEST UPDATES ON THE
INSTALLATION AND USAGE OF YOUR SMART LABEL PRINTER(R).

COMPATIBILITY:

This version is compatible with Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 or 2000 (Workstation and
Server) only. Use of the print driver or the Smart Label application on "NT
Terminal Server" is not supported in this version.

Note: USB connectivity requires Windows 98 or 2000.

ATTENTION WINDOWS 98 USB USERS:

If you are having problems installing your Smart Label Printer (SLP) on Windows
98 via a USB connection, please follow these steps:

1) Be sure the USB cable is not connected to your SLP.

2) Run Setup on your Smart Label CD ROM.

3) When you are asked to select how your SLP will be connected to your computer,
click "USB".

4) Plug the USB cable into your SLP. A Windows dialog "New Hardware Found"
should appear, followed by another Windows dialog asking you to insert your
Windows 98 CD ROM into your drive. Do NOT insert your Windows 98 CD ROM.
Instead, insert your Smart Label CD ROM and click OK.

5) The SLP USB driver will be loaded from your Smart Label CD ROM. After the
driver is copied, your Smart Label Printer will be detected on USB and you may
complete the remainder of the installation.

Note: If for some reason the Add New Hardware Wizard dialogue does not appear
after plugging in the SLP 100/200, then please go to the Control Panel/System
Properties and click on the Device Manager tab and expand "Other Devices", "SII
Smart Label Printer 100 or 200."

If an exclamation point appears next to "SII Smart Label Printer 100 or 200",
double click on this item. Click on the button "Reinstall Driver" in the dialog
to follow and select the root directory the Smart Label software CD. Windows
will guide you through any remaining USB driver installation steps.

ATTENTION WINDOWS 2000 USB USERS:

When you plug the USB cable into your SLP, you will see a series of messages
displayed as your system detects the SLP and installs the appropriate USB
drivers for it. The "Found New Hardware" dialog is displayed and it will list
your SLP model. It will then begin "Searching for drivers for this device".
When it has completed this, your system MAY display "Unknown device" and the New
Hardware Wizard will start. If this happens, cancel the New Hardware Wizard.
Your SLP USB drivers should already be installed.

KNOWN ANOMALIES IN THIS VERSION:

1. Networking in Windows 2000 is not supported.

2. The Test Page function on the printer driver may on certain systems produce
a blank label.

3. Printing to a SLP connected to a USB port may not elicit proper feedback
from the printer: e.g. "Printer is out of labels" message.

4. Printing from another application in Windows 2000 may not display label
types in Page Setup. If this occurs:

a) Go to Settings from the Start menu. Select Printers.

b) Double click on your Smart Label Printer icon.

c) From the Printer menu, select Properties. Click Printing Preferences(near
the bottom of the dialog).

d) Click Advanced. You should see label types listed in "Paper Size".

e) Click OK. You will now see label types displayed in your application
    Page Setup dialog.

NETWORKING CONSIDERATIONS:

When configuring a client to print to a remote SLP, the list of available
Network Printers will reflect exclusively any print driver(s) already configured
for a connection to one or more remote Smart Label Printers.

Although appropriate (Windows 95/98 or NT) drivers are normally installed
automatically by SETUP.EXE, it may be necessary to install driver files using
the Windows "Add Printer" utility. Windows 95/98 and NT 4 driver files are
included in separate folders on the CD.

NOTE: Printing from applications to a locally connected SLP require that the
driver installations be performed via SETUP.EXE.
