Readme.txt Driver File Contents (UPDV5700_343.ZIP)

This patch updates NEC DVD-ROM Firmware to eliminate the decrement of the DVD
region code change counter. After this patch you can change DVD region code on
your DVD-ROM as many times as you wish - counter will be always 4.

How to flash:

1. Copy FLASH.EXE, DXXXvNNN.HEX and HED_FILE.HED to floppy disk.
       XXX is your DVD model - 810 = DV-5500, 410 = DV-5700A,
       NNN is Firmware version.
Header file depends on DVD model - do not mix. You can check contents of the
   file - for D810 ir has to be '44 38 31 30', for D410 - '44 34 31 30'.

2. Restart your PC in DOS mode (do not flash from DOS window).

3. Run FLASH.EXE from floppy (floppy disk has to be opened for writing).
In FLASH window enter HEX file name (DXXXvNNN.HEX), DVD drive location
(Primary/Secondary IDE interface and Master/Slave drive), choose Option
0 ("Download") and push F10 and afterwards "Y" to confirmation requests.

Notes: 1. Patched FW updates have been tested, flashing the same FW version
       (V1.30 -> V1.30, V1.91 -> V1.91). The only FW change to upper version
was performed with DV-5500 - it was flashed from V1.06 to patched
       V1.07.
       2. After flashing counter will be the same you have before. It will be
set to 4 just if you change region code, for example from your software
       DVD player.
       3. Each Firmware has Version number and Code. If Code on your drive does
not match the Firmware you are going to flash into, FLASH.EXE program
will report an error. Most likely this FW Code has some relation to drive
HW, so it is better not to try flash over with different FW Code.
