YOUR EXTERNAL MODEM MAY BE CAPABLE OF HIGHER DTE SPEEDS
THAT MAY ENHANCE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR MODEM.
                 **NOTE**
You must have a high speed serial port (16650 or higher) in order
to take advantage of the higher speeds.

This readme file contains instructions on installing
the High Speed DTE Settings for you Fax Modem. The readme.txt is
broken down into the following sections.

Section I:  If your Modem is already detected By Windows 95 Version 4.00.950
Section II: If your Modem is already detected By Windows 95 Version 4.00.950 B
Section III: If your Modem is not yet detected by Windows 95

Windows 95 Version Check
------------------------
Please check the version of Windows 95 that you are using. Right
click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and select
"Properties". Under "System", if your version reads 4.00.950 B,
then you have OEM Service Release 2 of Windows 95. In this case,
follow the instructions in Section II below. Otherwise, follow instructions
in section I. 

This is not recommended for the basic user. If you do not
understand the difference please do not use these instructions
and contact technical support for more information.

*****Instructions for adding High speed support to External Modems*****


SECTION I
-----------
If your Modem is already detected By Windows 95 Version 4.00.950

1. Click "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel".

2. Double click "System Devices" then click the "Device Manager" Tab

3. Click on "Modems" then highlight the modem and click "Remove".
  (This will remove the modem) After it is removed click "OK"

     **This next step is very important**

You will need to delete any OEM*.INF files that Windows has found
along with the *.BIN files. This step is varies depending upon the
version of Windows 95 that you have.


4. Using Windows Explorer or a standard DOS Prompt change directories
to the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.

  Delete the OEM*.INF Files
  Delete the *.BIN Files 
5. You can now shut down your computer and restart.

6. When prompted for a driver disk type in the path for the
driver disk using the following path:
A:\230k or B:\230k

This will allow Windows to find the 230K driver on the diskette.



SECTION II
----------
If your Modem is already detected By Windows 95 Version 4.00.950 B

1. Click "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel".

2. Double click "System Devices" then click the "Device Manager" Tab

3. Click on "Modems" then highlight the modem and click "Remove".
  (This will remove the modem) After it is removed click "OK"

     **This next step is very important**

You will need to delete any OEM*.INF files that Windows has found
along with the *.BIN files. This step is varies depending upon the
version of Windows 95 that you have.

4. Using Windows Explorer or a standard DOS Prompt change directories
to the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory.

  Delete all the Files in this directory

5. Change directories to the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.

  Delete the *.BIN Files

6. You can now shut down your computer and restart.

7. When prompted for a driver disk type in the path for the
driver disk using the following path:
A:\230k or B:\230k

This will allow Windows to find the 230K driver on the diskette.


SECTION III

If your Modem is not already detected By Windows 95.

1. When prompted for a driver disk type in the path for the
driver disk using the following path:
A:\230k or B:\230k

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
