Date: 10-24-95 WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE MULTICARD Overview We suggest that you print this file out and read through it before you try it. This is a simple, but sophisticated procedure. We expect the people who try this to be experienced computer, network, and Windows 95 users. It is not meant to be a Windows 95 or networking tutorial. If you are uncomfortable doing these things or if these steps don't make sense, perhaps you should find someone who is more comfortable following these instructions. There are two situations these instructions apply to: A. Already installed MultiCards in Windows 95 These instructions detail the steps to remove old drivers and install new drivers. B. First time MultiCard installation These instructions detail the steps to install new drivers for a first time MultiCard installation. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A. Already installed MultiCards in Windows 95 Follow the procedure below to remove the old Windows 95 MultiCard drivers. (NOTE: These instructions are only if you have previously installed Win 95 MultiCard drivers and want to either reinstall the drivers or install updated drivers. Also, your MultiCard must already be installed and active in Windows 95 in order for this process to be successful.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows 95 and go to the 'System' option in the Control Panel. 2. At the next screen, click on the folder tab that says 'Device Manager'. 3. You will see a listing of devices that are seen by the computer. Double-click on 'Multi-function Adapters'. 4. The 'Apex Data Multicard' should then appear. Click that option, then click the box labeled 'Remove'. 5. You will be prompted that support for this card is going to be removed. Select 'OK'. When it's finished, 'Multi -function Adapters' will no longer appear on the screen. 6. Now go to your DOS prompt. From your WINDOWS directory, go to the INF sub-directory. For example, CD\ INF 7. Now type the following: DIR OEM*.INF. For each filename listed, type the following: TYPE OEMxxx.INF |MORE. When you have identified the Apex Data Multicard OEMxxx.INF file, DELETE it. 8. Type EXIT to return to Windows 95. 9. Close Windows 95 and turn off the computer. Now you're ready to install updated drivers for the MultiCard. 10. Turn the computer on to start Windows 95. 12. Once Windows 95 is running, insert the MultiCard into a PCMCIA slot on the computer. 13. A box will appear on the screen saying that Windows 95 has detected new hardware. After that, you will be prompted to choose from a menu of different items asking you how you want to install the MultiCard drivers. Select 'Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer'. 14. You will then be prompted to insert this driver diskette or specify the path where the Win 95 MultiCard drivers are located. After either specifying the path or inserting this diskette, select 'OK'. 15. Windows 95 will go through two more detection phases with new hardware being found. Repeat the above steps 13 & 14 on each phase. 16. When finished, the MultiCard will be set to go. All you need to do is configure your network support for the card. This can be done in the 'Network' option in the Control Panel (consult your Windows 95 instruction manual for the proper steps on how to do this). B. You will then be prompted to insert the driver diskette or specify the path where the Win 95 MultiCard drivers are located. After either specifying the path or inserting the diskette, select 'OK'. 5.
