The PCI Network Adapters Testing Program - DIAG.EXE The Micronet SP2500K PCI Ethernet driver disk includes a network testing program called DIAG. Run this program to check if your adapter is properly installed. The DIAG program works for the Micronet SP2500K 10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. This DIAG program performs the following tests on your adapter : a. Configuration Test b. I/O Test c. ID Test d. Internal Loopback Test e. External Loopback Test f. Interrupt Test g. Network Function Test 2. Test Requirements To run DIAG, you need at least two workstations, each with an installed PCI Fast Ethernet. You should run the program in both workstations, one after the other. If you want to test 100Mbps Fast Ethernet operation, you must have at least two workstations each with an installed SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. 3. Running the DIAG Program Insert the Micronet SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet driver Diskette into your floppy drive (A:\), and type: A:\> DIAG <Enter> 3.0. Each time when you enter the DIAG program, it will find all Micronet SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet adapters on your PC. If your PC does not support the PCI BIOS, or there is no SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet adapter on your PC, DIAG will show you an error message. Otherwise it will display information on all SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet adapters on your PCI machine. Each adapter's information includes adapter no., Ethernet address, IRQ used, I/O port used, and a predefined media type (AUTO or Auto-Negotiation, means media-type AUTO-sensing). You can use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select the adapter for testing, or use the RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys to select the media-type. The Micronet SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet adapter supports five media-types as follows: 1. Auto Negotiation 2. Twisted Pair 10Mbps 3. Twisted Pair 100Mbps 4. Twisted Pair 10Mbps in full-duplex mode 5. Twisted Pair 100Mbps in full-duplex mode Press <ENTER> to confirm the selected adapter and enter the test procedure, or press ESC to exit the DIAG program. 3.1. The screen will display the status of each test. After you select an adapter, the Testing Report showing the results of each test conducted appears on your screen. The test results are indicated by a "PASS" or "FAIL" remark. The screen display on your monitor is like Figure 1. ============================================================================= | Micronet SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Network Testing Program | | Version 1.08 Release Date: 11-07-1997 | ============================================================================= °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º Configuration test : PASS º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º I/O test : PASS º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º ID test : PASS º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º Internal Loopback Test : PASS º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º External Loopback Test : PASS º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º Interrupt test : _ º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°º º°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° ESC to Exit Figure 1 - Micronet SP2500K PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Test Screen 3.2. This screen presents you with a Testing Report to indicate the results of each test conducted. The test results are indicated by a "PASS" or "FAIL" remark. There are three functional keys which can be used when running the DIAG.EXE Program. They are: <F1> To reset all counters which report the real network status. <F2> To toggle the network function test ON or OFF. A toggle switch is provided to turn the network function test on and off. <ESC> To terminate and return to the Adapter-Selection Screen. The real network status reports on the DIAG.EXE program including TX count, RX count, CRC errors and ALG errors are shown on the Test Screen. Also the accumulated program run time and the performance are displayed on the Test Screen. When you press the <F2> key once, the network function test will become the "ON" Condition; that is, TX count is going to increase quickly (in a single station). If more than one station is running DIAG with network function test "ON" on your network system (multiple stations), then RX count will also increase quickly to reflect the real network traffic. When any of the diagnosis tests results in a "FAIL" remark, your screen will state the possible causes of the malfunction and offer some advice on solving the problem. 4. Test Fail Messages Possible results and suggested solutions for the diagnostics test are listed below : Failure results and suggested solutions of the diagnostics tests are listed below : ========================================================================== º Test Result º Suggested Solution º ========================================================================== º Configuration º 1.
