This readme file contains instructions on installing the Boca Research 56K PC Card Fax Modem. The readme.txt is broken down into the following sections. Section I: Modem Setup For Windows 95 Users Section II: Modem Setup for Windows 95 Users Version 4.00.950 B Section III: Modem Setup for Windows NT Users Section IV: Modem Setup for Windows 3.x Users Section V: Modem Setup for Windows MS-DOS Users *NOTE* Most notebook and laptop computers supporting the PCMCIA Type II slot specification have a small covered opening for the slot. Open the cover to expose this slot. If you require assistance locating this slot, refer to your computer documentation. For ease of installation we will assume you have located the slot and removed any covers to expose the slot. *NOTE* FOR DOS AND WINDOWS 3.X USERS In order for your modem to work properly in DOS or Windows 3.x your laptop or notebook, your computer must have Card and Socket Services installed. Check with your laptop manufacturer if you are uncertain whether or not these services are installed on your laptop. I. Modem Setup for Windows 95 Users -------------------------------- Please check the version of Windows 95 that you are using. Right click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and select "Properties". Under "System", if your version reads 4.00.950 B, then you have OEM Service Release 2 of Windows 95. In this case, follow the instructions in Section II below. Otherwise, continue immediately below. 1. When the PC Card modem is physically installed, start Windows 95 as you normally would. 2. When Windows 95 detects new hardware, it displays the New Hardware Found dialog box. Here, you are asked what driver files are associated with the new hardware. 3. From the choices given, select Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer. 4. Windows 95 then displays the "Install from Disk" dialog box. Here, you are asked for the location of the driver files. 5. Insert the diskette. a. Type the path for the location of the drivers (A:\ or B:\). 6. Windows 95 may ask you for your original Windows 95 installation CD or diskettes. Congratulations! Setup is complete for Windows 95 users. OPTIONAL If you need to re-configure the board, click on Control Panel, then System, then Device Manager. The device description is under the section, Modem. See your Windows 95 documentation on changing properties of devices using the Device Manager. Congratulations! Setup is complete for Windows 95 users. II. Modem Setup for Windows 95 Users Version 4.00.950 B: ---------------------------------------------------- 1. When the PC Card modem is physically installed, start Windows 95 Ver 4.00.950b as you normally would. 2. When Windows 95 detects new hardware, it starts the "Updated Device Driver Wizard". 3. Insert the diskette and click Next. 4. After Windows 95 finishes searching for updated drivers on the diskette, accept the modem selected by Windows 95. 5. Complete the installation by clicking on the Finish button. Windows 95 may prompt you for your original Windows 95 installation CD or diskettes. Congratulations! Setup is complete for Windows 95 users. III. Modem Setup for Windows NT Users -------------------------------- 1. When the PC Card modem is physically installed, Start Windows NT as you normally would. 2. Select Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. 3. Double-click on the Modems icon. 4. At the Install New Modem screen, check the box in front of "Don't Detect my Modem; I Will Select it from a List". 5. Select Next, then Have Disk. Insert the Windows NT driver diskette into the diskette drive. 6. Highlight and select " 56K Mobile Office PC card Fax Modem", then Next. 7. Select the COM port to which you wish the modem to be assigned. Then select Next, then Finish. Congratulations! Setup is complete for Windows NT. If no COM ports are displayed, you must add a port for the modem to connect to. Please refer to your documentation for WINDOWS NT for assistance with this step. IV. Modem Setup for Windows 3.x -------------------------------------------- Modem requirements for this card are known as "Card and Socket Services" Card services control communication between the PCMCIA card and your computer. Socket services monitor each PCMCIA slot to determine if a card is present so your computer can make use of these cards. 1. When the PC Card modem is physically installed, Start Windows 3.x as you normally would. 2. Start your Card and Socket Services to locate the port that your modem has been configured to. 3. Write this information down and install/reconfigure your communications software to use this port. V. Modem Setup for MS-DOS Users ---------------------------- Modem requirements for this card are known as "Card and Socket Services" Card services control communication between the PCMCIA card and your computer. Socket services monitor each PCMCIA slot to determine if a card is present so your computer can make use of these cards. 1. Start your Card and Socket Services to locate the port that your modem has been configured to. If you are having problems you can use the LOCATE or COMCHECK programs that are located on the driver disk 2. Write this information down and install/reconfigure your communications software to use this port.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
