***************************************************************************** * * * PNP ISA ETHERNET ADAPTER * * * * SETUP.EXE USER GUIDE * * * ***************************************************************************** The SETUP.EXE program is used to set the adapter's configuration and diagnose the adapter's hardware. The most important thing for this PNP ISA adapter is that: ====================================================================== ** To use this adapter on Non-PnP machine, please run SETUP.EXE program and set the adapter to JUMPERLESS mode, otherwise driver can't recognize the adapter. ** To use this adapter on Non-PnP O.S.(ex. DOS), please enter "PNP AND PCI SETUP" in the PC CMOS SETUP and set "PNP OS Installed" to "No", otherwise SETUP.EXE and driver can't recognize the adapter. ====================================================================== Starting the Program ==================== 1. From DOS, type the following indicating the directory or drive location of the SETUP.EXE program. Then press <Enter>: A:\SETUP <Enter> 2. Identify your adapter. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight the appropriate adapter name. Note ---- If there is more than one adapter installed inside the host PC, the Hardware Configuration module will prompt you to specify the card you want to configure. In the meantime, program will automatically resolve the I/O base or IRQ conflict, then adjust the available I/O base or IRQ for the adapter. View Current Configuration ========================== 1. Use the up/down arrow keys to select the "VIEW CURRENT CONFIGURATION" option and press <Enter> to view the current adapter's configuration settings. 2. This function displays its configuration to include the following items: * Operating Mode * Ethernet Address * Medium Type (AUTO, 10BaseT Link Test Disable, AUI, BNC) * Full-Duplex * I/O Base Address * Interrupt * Boot ROM Base Address 3. Press SPACE BAR key or ESC key to return to the main menu. Setup ===== 1. Choose "Setup" by highlighting the option using the up/down arrow keys. Then press <Enter> to continue and set the adapter's configuration by manual. 2. If there is any change value for any item, Press ESC key and HARDWARE RESET or ENTER key to update value of item. 4. If there is not any change value for any item, Press ESC key to return to the main menu. Note ---- When Boot ROM is enabled in Plug & Play Mode, the Menu will show the following items to set available values by manual. * Operating Mode * Medium Type (AUTO, 10BaseT Link Test Disable, AUI, BNC) * Full-Duplex * Boot ROM Base Address * |--- Power-up I/O Base * |--- Power-up Interrupt Run Diagnostics =============== 1. Choose the "Run Diagnostics" option to test the adapter's components and its installation and then press <Enter> to continue. 2. The program will run the following tests: * Run EEPROM Test * Run Diagnostics On Board * Run Diagnostics On Network Run EEPROM Test --------------- The program will run READ/WRITE tests on each register in the EEPROM. Run Diagnostics On Board ------------------------ The program will run the following tests: * Board Reset * I/O Registers * Loop Back Test * Cable Connection * RAM Test This test monitors the adapter and corresponding cabling system. However, it does not test the network's condition. The screen displays the PASSED or FAILED count for each test. If a test fails, press the space bar to display the reason for failure and possible solutions. The adapter test checks the following items --- * Board Reset Test checks the initial status of the Ethernet Controller * I/O Registers Test checks I/O accessibility * Loop Back Test checks adapter's controller * Cable Connection Test checks the network link * RAM Test checks the condition of on-board RAM Run Diagnostics On Network -------------------------- - The program will thoroughly verify your adapter's ability to communicate with another device on the network. - Set up at least one computer as a Responder and at least one as an Initiator. - The Responder displays the status of communications with each Initiator on the network. - The Initiator displays the current Responder and the status of corresponding communications. ----- All trademarks or brand names mentioned are properties of their respective companies.Download Driver Pack
