Section 1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DISPLAY DRIVERS
================================================================================

    BOCA VIDEO PHONE REQUIRES DIRECTDRAW-COMPATIBLE DISPLAY DRIVERS FOR YOUR
    DISPLAY CARD.

    The Boca Video Phone Setup will install DirectDraw automatically by default.
    If no video appears in the Boca Video Phone video window, try the following:

    1) Run DXSETUP.exe in the \Directx directory on the Boca Video Phone CD-ROM,
    then click the 'Reinstall DirectX' button. If asked to update your display
    drivers, click 'Yes'.

    or

    2) Contact your display card manufacturer for DirectDraw-compatible drivers.

================================================================================
Section 2. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MODEM SETUP
================================================================================

    BOCA VIDEO PHONE REQUIRES THAT ERROR CONTROL AND DATA COMPRESSION ARE DISABLED
    ON YOUR MODEM.

    It is very easy to check your modem setup by following these instructions:

    1) Open the Control Panel and double-click the 'Modems' icon.

    2) Select the modem you will be using from the modems listed and click the
    'Properties' button.

    3) Click the 'Connection' tab, then click the 'Advanced' button.

    4) Disable 'Use error control' and 'Compress data' by removing the check
    mark next to these items.

    5) Click 'OK' and exit the Control Panel. Restart the Boca Video Phone application.

    WARNING: Not all modems provide the necessary information in their drivers
    to disable these settings.

    If your modems connect but hang up after about 30 seconds, you must disable
    these modes manually by following these procedures:

    1) Repeat steps 1-4 above.

    2) In the 'Extra Settings' area, enter the necessary 'AT Commands' to disable
    Error Control and Compress Data. Some examples are:

        Modem Type                      Extra Setting
        -----------------------------------------------------
        US ROBOTICS SPORTSTER           &K0&M0
        HAYES OPTIMA                    &Q0
        MULTITECH 143428D               &E0
        SOUNDEXPRESSION SE34SRS/SVD     %C0&Q6\N0

    If your modem is not listed here, see your modem manual for the commands to
    'Disable error control ' and 'Disable data compression', and use those commands
    for the Extra Settings.

================================================================================
Section 3. USING EXTERNAL MODEMS
================================================================================
    External modems require that the 'Maximum Speed' setting is set to 57600.

    1) Open the Control Panel and double-click the 'Modems' icon.

    2) Select the modem you will be using from the list of modems and click the
    'Properties' button.

    3) Click the 'General' tab. Set 'Maximum Speed' to 57600.

    4) Click 'OK' and restart the Boca Video Phone application.

Section 4. COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
================================================================================

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    IBM Aptiva
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ISSUE:
    ==========
    Models with the OPTI 'Viper-M' chipset exhibit a problem where the
    machine will lock up when any video is displayed. IBM used the
    Viper-M chipset in many models, but it has been replaced with the
    Viper-Max that was released in June 1996.

    SOLUTION:
    =========
    The drivers fix this problem by allowing you to disable video
    capture clipping.

    Use Notepad to open the file SAA7145.ini in your Windows directory.

    Add the entry "ClippingType=0" in the SAA7145.ini file under
    the [Board0] section to disable the clipper. If the entry is not present,
    the clipper is enabled.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Machines with Trident video chipsets such as the IBM Aptiva.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ISSUE:
    =========
    Sometimes the icons in the system will get corrupted. The Trident chipset
    has a memory contention problem when BLT-ing.

    SOLUTION:
    =========
    Disable graphic hardware acceleration. In the System Properties dialog,
    click the 'Performance' tab, then click the 'Graphics' button. Set
    hardware acceleration to 'None'.

    or

    Upgrade the video adapter in the computer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Machines with S3 Trio64V+ video chipset
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ISSUE:
    =========
    System locks up when the Boca Video Phone board is installed or when you are
    running the Boca Video Phone application.

    SOLUTION:
    =========
    Copy the program PDO.exe to your hard drive and add the PDO command
    to your Autoexec.bat file.

    PDO.exe is found in the \Drivers directory of the CD-ROM.

    PDO solves a problem with most Trio64V+ BIOS's that does not allow for
    PCI BUS memory bursting. S3 is aware of this problem and will be updating
    their BIOS's accordingly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Compaq Presario 4700 series computers
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ISSUE:
    =========
    AVPHDAR.DLL causes an error.

    SOLUTION:
    =========
    If you have a Compaq Presario, you may receive a message
    indicating that a file called AVPHDAR.DLL is causing an error. If
    so, try any or all of the following:

    1) Go to your 'Media Pilot' software, enter the 'Operator'
    option and set the software to 'Not Receive' incoming calls.

    2) If you do not have the 'Operator' option, turn off the 'Call
    Minder' option.

    3) You may also need to install the Boca Video Phone board in a
    different PCI slot (other than a "bus-mastering slot"). Consult
    your Compaq system documentation to determine which of your PCI
    slots supports bus-mastering.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Matrox display adapters
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ISSUE:
    =========
    No video appears in the Boca Video Phone application.

    SOLUTION:
    =========
    When installing the Boca Video Phone board, use the Matrox-compatible
    drivers as follows:

    1) Select the line for "Drivers provided by manufacturer" and press OK.
    2) Setup will prompt you for the location of the drivers. Select the
    browse button and select the following location:

        D:\Drivers\Matrox
        (This assumes that drive 'D' is your CD-ROM drive)

    3) Click OK to select the specified location.
    4) Click OK to install the drivers.
