3Com Corporation 3C98X 10/100 EtherLink Server NIC Windows NT4.0 unattended installation -------------------------------------- The 3C98X driver can be installed through unattended installation following this procedure. 1. Prepare your server and install the OS file source to the desired distribution system. - copy the \i386 directory and its contents from your NT4.0 OS CD to your distribution folder. - create an \i386\$oem$\net\3C980C directory in the distribution folder Refer to the Microsoft OS Deployment guide for a more detailed information on this preparation. Once you have copied the OS source files to your system, copy the 3C98X drivers to the distribution folder. The recommended location is <<your distribution folder>>\$oem$\net\3C980C. You can optionally run netcopy.bat from the \unattend directory on this CD to extract these files to your distribution folder. The driver files needed are: 3CDDISK1 PCI_FIX.SYS PCI_DATA.EXE 3C980X.DL_ SRV_CONF.EX_ SRV_CONF.HL_ EL980N3.SY_ OEMSETUP.INF EL98XN4.SY_ 2. In your answer file(unattend.txt), make sure that the [SelectedAdaptersSection] entry in your answer file is set to the correct NIC option, as shown below. [SelectedAdaptersSection] 3C980 = OEMAdapterParamSection, ..\$oem$\net\3C980C\ 3. Start your unattended install.(winnt /s:. /u:unattend.txt) Note: - Please refer to the Microsoft NT4.0 OS deployment Guide for details on setting up the OS source folders and on how to create the answer file. Installing the DynamicAccess for Server software during unattended install. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If this is desired, this option can be done by starting the DA setup through the cmdlines.txt option of the unattended install process. Follow these steps. 1. Create a cmdlines.txt in the ..\$oem$\ directory of your distribution folder with this entry for DynamicAccess installation. [Commands] "dasetup.exe -s" 2. Copy all the DynamicAccess for Server related files. The DynamicAccess server files come in a compressed WinZIP format(daserver.exe), under the english\dsk1copy\da_nt4_dsk directory on the CD. Extract the files using WinZIP to a temporary location and copy them into the ..\$oem$\ directory. Do not execute daserver.exe, as it will start the DA install. The files needed are as follows: Da15cfg.exe Dacfg.hlp DAMINI.SYS DAPROT.SYS DAserver.CNT DAServer.cpl DAServer.hlp dasetup.exe DASmartN.exe EXAM.AVI LCFD.EXE LIBCPL.DLL LIBDES.DLL LIBMRT.DLL Msvcrt40.dll oemsetup.inf PACECFG.CPL PRUN.INF title.txt WLCFTAP.EXE 3. Start your unattended install. Windows 2000 unattended installation ------------------------------------ Run the setupmgr.exe utility from you Windows2000 OS CD to setup the necessary distribution folder for your OS. After creating your distribution folder , copy the following files to the ..$oem$\$1\drivers\3C980C location in your distribution folder. You may need to create the 3c980C folder manually. Files needed from the root of the CD: 3CDdisk1 pci_fix.sys PCI_DATA.EXE 3c980x.dll srv_conf.ex_ Srv_Conf.hl_ el98xn5.sy_ el98x20.cat W2kEL98x.inf You can optionally run netcopy.bat from the \unattend directory on this CD to extract these files to your distribution folder. Make sure that the OemPNPDriversPath parameter in your answer file points to the location of your 3C98X driver files. OemPNPDriversPath= "\drivers\3C980C" Installing DynamicAccess Server software during unattended install ------------------------------------------------------------------- The DynamicAccess Server software can be installed during the unattended install process by starting dasetup.exe -s through the cmdlines.txt. Create cmdlines.txt files with this content: dasetup.exe -s Make sure that the cmdlines.txt is copied to the \$oem$\ directory including all the DynamicAccess driver files. The files needed are: DASERVER.HLP 3Comdatp.inf 3com.ico title.txt 3comdatp.cat 3cw2kdam.cat 3CDISK5 dasetup.exe daprotim.sys 3comdamp.inf danotify.dll You can optionally run netcopy.bat from the \unattend directory on this CD to extract these files to your distribution folder. Installing the diagnostics module during unattended install ----------------------------------------------------------- The 3Com NIC Doctor diagnostics module can be installed by running the driver update program through the cmdlines.txt. Create this entry in the cmdlines.txt: update /unattended /diagonly Copy the necessary diagnostics files to the \$oem$\ directory. The files needed are: From \English\Diagnostics\Update directory Update.exe InstInfo.ini readme.txt From \English\Diagnostics\Update\Source directory Inetwh32.dll NicRem2K.exe NICRem95.exe NicRemNT.exe roboex32.dll tcaacchg.vx_ TCAATDI.INF tcaatdi.vx_ TCAEGT16.DL_ TCAEGT32.DL_ TCAEHWAC.DL_ TCAICCHG.SY_ TCAITDI.SY_ TCAITDI.INF TCAMHWAC.DL_ TCAUDCUS.TX_ TCAUDEXP.TX_ tcaudiag.ex_ TCAUDIAG.HL_ TCAUDIAG.URL tcaudvar.txt Tcaum90x.hl_ tcaum90x.dl_ tcauprot.dl_ tcauprot.hl_ Tcaytdi.cat Tcaytdi.inf TDInst2K.exe tdinst95.exe TDInstNT.exe UPDDRV2K.EXE Example answer files: -------------------- ;NT4.0 unattend.txt file(answer file) ;;modify the [UserData] section as needed.
