To install the the Conexant RH56D Modem driver follow these instructions.

NOTE: When you unzipped the archive containing this folder you may have selected the option "unzip to c:\...conexant" if you did you may recieved an extra folder in the process.  For you referance there should be only two folders inculded with the zip.  One labeled "Conexant XP Modem Driver" and then another inside that next to this text file which would be named "RH56D"  If you have an extra folder which was created by your zip program, please take that into account when following step 6 of the instructions.

If you already have the generic windows driver installed:

1) In Windows 2000 or XP open the control panel and double click on the modem icon

2) select your conexant modem and open the properties dialog

3) choose the update driver option

4) when the dialog box appears choose "Install from a list or specific location"

5) when the next dialog box appears choose "Do not search, I will choose driver to install"

6) at the next dialog box select "have disk" and direct windows to open the "Conexant XP Modem Driver" folder and then to open the "RH56D" folder conatined inside, then select okay

7) you may or may not see a dialog box pop up during the driver installation that says the driver is usigned, choose YES at any of the dialog boxes to continue the installation NOTE: you MUST answer yes to the unsigned driver warnings or the installation will not complete!

8) when the install has finished, choose the "diagnostics" tab in the modem properties box and click "query modem" to test the modem and ensure the driver is operationg it correctly.  If you see results in the window then the modem is functioning correctly and your done.  If you see no results and recieve a "communication with modem failed" message then you have the wrong driver for you device, in modem properties simply choose "rollback driver" to restore the original driver.

If you do not have the generic windows driver installed follow the directions below:

1) Open the control panel and double click on the modem icon

2) choose to "add new modem"

3) begin at step 4 above and follow the instructions from there.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
