MSETUP.TXT 7 NOVEMBER 1996 REVISION 1.2 MEA/DMW, DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA CONTENTS 1 INTRODUCTION 2 MANUAL CONFIGURATION 3 ERROR CODES 1 INTRODUCTION The MSETUP.EXE utility is a 16-bit application designed to be used exclusively with Supra/Diamond modems. The sole purpose of the utility is to reset the country code in the modem in order to make the modem compatible with the local telephone system and to comply with local government regulations. MSETUP.EXE is only designed to run under Windows 3.1/3.11/95. However, the automated activities of MSETUP.EXE can be performed manually through any terminal software program (see section 2 of this file for instructions). Make sure that there is only one modem in the system before running MSETUP.EXE. If there is more than one modem in the system the program will only configure the first modem it finds. 2 MANUAL CONFIGURATION If you operate your modem in an environment where MSETUP.EXE will not operate, you MUST perform the one-time reconfiguration yourself. ***WARNING: FAILURE TO COMPLETE THIS STEP WILL HINDER MODEM PERFORMANCE AND WILL VIOLATE GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATION OF THIS PRODUCT. THE STICKERS ON THE MODEM INDICATE THE COUNTRIES WHERE THIS PRODUCT MAY BE LEGALLY USED. IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH LOCAL SAFETY, PERFORMANCE, AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT EXCEPT IN THE COUNTRIES WHERE THIS PRODUCT IS CERTIFIED. Open any terminal data software program and type: ATi6 and press ENTER This will display the current country setting. If your country is not displayed, you need to reset the country code. To select a different one, type AT*NC? and press ENTER This will display a list of all of the country codes your modem supports. The list may vary depending upon the firmware revision, but it will look similar to this: 022 US 011 United States 001 AUS 00 Australia 002 BLG 00 Belgium 003 DEN 009 Denmark 004 FIN 990 Finland 005 FR 19 France 006 GER 00 Germany 007 IRE 353 Ireland 008 IT 00 Italy 010 NL 09 Netherlands 011 NOR 095 Norway 012 POR 351 Portugal 013 SPA 034 Spain 014 SWE 009 Sweden 015 SWI 00 Switzerland 016 UK 010 United Kingdom 017 GRE 030 Greece 040 AST 011 Austria 047 SG 00 Singapore 060 SAF 027 South Africa ***WARNING: YOUR MODEM IS NOT CERTIFIED FOR USE IN ALL OF THESE COUNTRIES. DO NOT CHOOSE A COUNTRY UNLESS AN APPROVAL STICKER FOR THAT COUNTRY APPEARS ON THE MODEM. For our purposes, the column on the left is the only one that matters. The syntax is AT*NCnZ where n is the country code you need. For example, to select Italy, you would type AT*NC8Z and press ENTER The country code is stored in the modem's non-volatile RAM and can only be changed manually or with the MSETUP.EXE utility. It will not revert to a previous or different setting any other way except via one of these two methods. Once the country code is set, this procedure should not be repeated. To finish the procedure you have to re-initialize the Mode. Please type AT&F2&W and press ENTER Your Modem is now ready for operation with the new country settings. 3 ERROR CODES If MSETUP.EXE fails to configure the modem, it will display an error code in the upper right corner of the dialog. Refer to the list below to see what the error code means and possible causes for the error. <1> Could not set the country code. This error could be caused by running MSETUP on a modem of another make or model. Make sure to run MSETUP only on the modem that came with the program. <2> No modem found. This error could occur if you run MSETUP on a modem other than the one that came with the program. It could also occur if there is no modem connected to the computer or if the modem does not have power connected. <3> Country not found. This error will occur if you run MSETUP on a modem that has a country code set to an unsupported country. See the stickers on your modem for approved countries. Troubleshooting assistance is available on the Modem Utility Disk in the PNPFAQ.TXT file. Troubleshooting assistance is also available in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish on the Modem Utility Disk.Download Driver Pack
