Linux Installation Guide v1.2 030925

Obtaining Drivers

The driver package is located on this disk in the directory Driver/Linux/ltmodem-8.26a9/ or from http://www.heby.de/ltmodem, and are packaged as both source and pre-compiled binaries for most major Linux distributions. This document only covers the installation of the source package ltmodem-8.26a9.tar.gz.

Requirements

Although it should not be necessary to re-compile the kernel in order to get the drivers to function properly, you will need to have a full and configured installation of the Linux kernel source. Some distributions will only install the kernel header files by default. For these situations you will need to download a copy of the kernel source from http://kernel.org, and compile and install it on your system before installation of the ltmodem drivers package. Depending on the version of the kernel installed on your system, other software requirements are as follows:

Recommended Versions

Linux Kernel - 2.4.x
GNU C - 3.2.x
GNU make - 3.79
Binutils - 2.13.x

Installation Instructions

1.Download the ltmodem-8.26a9.tar.gz package from http://www.heby.de/ltmodem
2.Extract the files using
	tar zxvf ltmodem-8.26a9.tar.gz
3.Change to the directory just created
	cd ltmodem-8.26a9
4.Build the kernel modules
	./build_module
5.Install the modules using
	./ltinst2
6.Setup the modules to load automatically using
	./autoload
7.Verify that the configuration is correct using
	./checkout

The drivers for the modem should now be installed and loaded properly. Connections can be setup using Kppp or by configuring pppd manually. Refer to your distribution's documentation for instructions on how to setup a dial-up Internet connection.
